Recommendation for a Win 10 Licensed PC @ $200

Currently using an ancient Linux box. Looking for a Win 10 licensed PC just for web/office tasks. Where can I find a good refurb or similar?

    Ebay.

Dell/Lenovo/HP workstations. Might need to stretch to $250.

I have this and now it is $95. (Other configurations and similar PCs available at here )
It comes with Win7 Home which can be upgraded to Win10 Home.

I got it for $105 last year with slightly different configuration (no GPU, 500GB HDD) and I have done below upgrades.
Rock solid little PC (mini tower) for daily work and gaming.

    RAM - 16GB
    GPU - GTX1060 3GB
    Optical - LG BD-RE
    PSU - Silverstone SFX 450W
    SSD - Crucial 240GB

Thank you so much! Really helpful.😁

      • Forgot to mention, they provide free pickup (not sure these days due to lockdown) so that you can save on shipping as well if you live nearby.

      • I would rather suggest a Dell OptiPlex.
In particular look for the 9010 SFF model, as the 3770 is one of the fastest YET cheapest option. And this one allows you to use a Low-Profile dGPU on the x16-Pcie port. Be careful of the USSF models as they're not worth it, and "upgrading" to the 9020 model is not advised, as inside those boxes the Pcie has been switched so you can only use the x4-Pcie port :(

Here's one from reboot-it, or the same seller on eBay, as stated before free pick up from Melbourne.
And here's one from eBay that's also in Melbourne with free pick up.
Lastly here is a slightly better one on eBay because it has an SSD ready, but its located in Sydney.

SSD is basically a must have, either buy one yourself very cheaply for under or around $50 bucks, or pickup an OptiPlex where the seller has upgraded it for you. I would recommend you to add another stick(s) of RAM. These days 4GB isn't enough, 8GB is barely enough, 16GB gives you wiggle room, and 32GB is the max you can goto. It should only cost you $20 or so to make the upgrade (DDR3-1600 sticks are very cheap).

        Now comes the good part:
As for a Low-Profile discreet GPU (both for HDMI-out, 4K-out and HDR support), you're only option is with Nvidia GeForce cards. At the lowest end, there's the GT 1030. Going higher up are used GTX 750Ti. Then the GTX 1050 and GTX 1050Ti. The maximum is the GTX 1650. Without a dGPU you're going to get Xbox 360-to-PS3 level of graphics from the built-in iGPU. The dGPU will boost things up from an Xbox One level, all the way upto an Xbox One X level. Prices range from starting at $90 and upto $250… if you stay thrifty!

    • Cheers mate, checking it out. Thanks 😁

  • FYI Win7 can be upgraded to Win10 for free still. Pro goes to pro.

So that will broaden and cheapen your eBay options.

It might not be 100% 'honest' but it will get you a legit activated licence with no issues.

Source: me, did it today and a few other times for family over the last year.

I'd grab an optiplex for $167.20 and chuck an SSD in it.

Also probably needs another 4GB stick of RAM.

There was an SSD version with 8GB but it was $260.

What is 4GB of DDR3 nowadays? Around $30… Yeah worth it.

  • Something like this 9020m would do nicely. WiFi, plenty of performance, 8GB RAM and an SSD. Tiny, so easy to hide away.

  • Thanks a bunch for being so helpful. My main problem is deciphering which processor is the best bang for buck, there's so many iterations it's quite confusing. I'll look for a tl:dr on recent processor history. I'm just so out of the loop since I lost interest in gaming yonks ago.
