Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1650 GDDR6 Low Profile 4G OC Graphics Card
Model: N1656-OC-4GL

This is the new GDDR6 version with HDMI, DVI-D & 2 x DP. Previous GDDR5 release had one less DP and could only drive up to 3 monitors. Faster memory only translates into minimal FPS gains according to benchmarks as they had to underclock it to keep it within the TDP envelope of a low profile card.

Best performing, LP GPU today that you can whack into a SFF or OEM desktop without the need for an extra power connection or PSU upgrade. Definitely not the best bang for buck but if you've got a thing for bonsai PCs or cheap OEMs then this is the premium you'll pay.

Reviews suggest that Gigabyte skimped on the cooling and it runs a little warm at 80-84 degrees at max load so it may get a little too toasty if you've got bad airflow in your case already.

Looks like prices are starting to drop for GPUs.. let's hope they keep up the trend.

Can anyone comment on the comparison with this and a 1060 3Gb ?

My search reveals my old 1060 would be better than this 1650…..

    • +2

Id imagine very similar and a pointless upgrade

    • +6

This is a smaller, more modern and more power efficient GPU compared to the 1060. However, the overall performance is pretty similar. If you're looking for a budget upgrade, the RX570 and RX580 are the obvious choices, albeit with much higher temps and more power draw.

The only good purpose for these cards is PCs which are very compact and/or have highly constrained power supplies - the usual suspects are home theatre rigs, or refurbished ex-commercial machines repurposed for budget gaming. In that setting, this is about the best thing on the market.

This is just a 1050, more or less.

      Not really a upgrade.

Enjoy his videos, worth a watch.

    Could save these questions…

  • Is it better than 4gb Rx 570?

    • +1

Medium, High & Ultra Quality Benchmark, GTX 1650 vs. RX 570

I skipped through the video quickly to see the results so may have missed something, but from what I saw the 570 beat the 1650 in every game tested.

No it isn't better than a 4GB RX570 so if your PC can take a full-sized card and deliver the extra power then there are much better alternatives out there. The RX570 does not come in a low-profile form factor unfortunately.

  • can i put this one into the Hp elitedesk 800g1 sff?

    • More than likely it would fit. According to the documentation, the PCIe x16 slot labelled "X16PCIEXP" will easily accommodate a double-slot card like this one, assuming that the other slots are free.

    • I think it has a 250W or so PSU, so should be doable. But you will probably running it at 200W or so all the time (80W CPU, 75GPU + etc etc).

      Personally, I end up getting a 1030

      https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B072BQ2JGS/

Half the price, probably 1/4 the performance. But its a single slot and just 30W, so fits nicely in my Lenovo M900.

You raise a valid point (EliteDesk and similar have small power supply capacity), but not quite true. Neither CPU nor GPU use their maximum power at all times - only when under heavy load. In truth, neither CPU or GPU will be drawing their rated maximums at the same time under normal real-world applications, and your PSU will have no trouble keeping up with it.

AndyT91, I have put several similar cards in HP and Dell workstations - it works well, and it's an excellent way to get a cheap, capable gaming rig. I highly recommend it.

        • Because im thinking of the gtx 1050ti lp and centercomp has them on sale for $249 compare to this card that why i am not sure which one should i get? its only around $20 different

          • @at91: The 1050ti was the "goto" low profile GPU before the more powerful 1650 was released. The 4GB GDDR5 versions hovered around the $200 mark pre-COVID but be wary of heavily gimped GDDR4 units that may be priced too low to be true.

            • @OSienna: price has been back to normal now, only centre comp has them in stock at $265 but not in my area.

Not really a deal, it's cheaper here when you account for shipping https://www.centrecom.com.au/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1650-oc-4g…

$272 from umart, $265 from centrecom

      That's the older GDDR5 model

      • Still wouldn't recommend this card, it gets slapped by sub $200 cards (that require psu connection) by up to 20% in performance and as you mentioned already it runs hot, especially if you are recommending putting it in a small OEM PC.

        • Hence I put all the caveats in the description. This card won't be for everyone but if you don't mind the compromises then the price is the lowest it's been since release. Not all small OEM PCs are the same so as long as you've done your research, then it may be a good fit.

          • -1

@OSienna: Rather the cheaper DDR5 version for 5% less performance as it will run cooler. Alternatively, people buying this card to put into their old systems would be better off getting something like a 570 and putting the extra money into buying a case/psu to fit it, about the same price in the end but better performance. Quite frankly, this card is just a ripoff.

        • -1

Doesn't mean it's not a deal for people who don't have the bigger psu.

          • @Mechz: It isn't, you can get a psu and 570 for cheaper than this card and it's 20% better…

            • -1

@s1Lence: Will they fit in a SFF case though?

              • -3

@Mechz: As I already mentioned, might as well get the 570 + case and psu if that is the case. About the same price but better performance and cooling.

            • -1

@s1Lence: People buying this are most likely upgrading commercial machines with proprietary PSU and cases etc. Not as easy as buying any old PSU.

              • -1

@annarchon: As I already mentioned, might as well get the 570 + case and psu if that is the case. About the same price but better performance and cooling.

                • @s1Lence: 570 is about 200. So what sort of case and PSU are you getting for 50 bucks. Then for a Lenovo like mine, I need an adaptor for another 10 or so off eBay.

                  • -1

@annarchon: there are some solid ones for $40 even, the throw in a case for $40-50 and you're laughing

                    • @s1Lence: so 300 or so all up, 50 bucks more and all the extra work instead of just buying a card and chucking it in?

                      • -1

@annarchon: more like 280 vs 270 (delivered) but you get 20% better performance and better cooling (assuming you dont wait for bargains in which case it may be even cheaper)

  • Can anyone point to somewhere the confirms this Turing encoder?

    • The NVIDIA Developer Matrix suggests that while the 1650 is listed in the Turing "family", the NVENC chip is fact a Volta:

      * = Turing GPU with Volta NVENC

      So no sadly..

    • Look for the version TU116/117 which will support NVENC

  • is it enough to play Valorant/Fortnite/CS: Go with this?

    • Easily.

      • Minesweeper?

  • In the vein of questions that have already been asked, how'd this go as a replacement for a GTX 960?

    • +2

It should continue to allow you to operate Windows 10 at 60hz on your Kogan VA Panel monitor.

    • +2

Compared to the GTX 960, it's smaller, quieter, cooler and more powerful.

Having said that, if you have the space for a non-low profile card, there are better options.

  • nooooo missed this deal? Wanted to upgrade my 1050ti low profile

    • Back at $275. Is it much of an upgrade anyway?

      • its around 10fps increase in most games.

        • 1050ti resale might make it less of a leap

          • @Steptoe: Or I'm thinking of getting a laptop which has a 1660 in it.

I really like SFF machines due to space so I don't want to go back to Full desktop. So I need either upgrade my current SFF machine or get a new laptop
