Seiko 5 Sports Mens Watch SRPD65K-4 $279 Free Standard Shipping @ Watch Direct

150

Seems like a good deal, I've checked on Starbuy and they have it listed for $339. I've not purchased from Watch Direct before personally so not sure on their rep.

      You realise that's $US, yeah?

    • Whats bad about this seiko 5?

      • They're just overpriced for what they are. Admittedly at closer to $250 they're probably alright.

However the Orient Mako II and Ray II, and the Kamasu for a bit more, are much much better value watches. The Kamasu in particular offers Sapphire crystal, better lume and true 200m water resistance for more or less the same price.

        • @xyron: thanks for your information.
I get your points, no ideas why your suggestions got too many negs though.

          • +1

@badinh: valid points if he led with them, just sounded rude initially

          • @badinh: People probably didn’t like one’s personal preferences shoved down their throat.
Fair enough if xyron prefers the Orient, but people who wants this Seiko will buy this Seiko.
Calling others ‘sheep’ for not agreeing with them didn’t help either.
This isn’t unlike those who post ‘sheeple’ comments in Apple deals.
            TL;DR: Live and let live.

            • @zonra: Yeah people just like the Seiko 5 style. The hardlex is offputting and its not cheap enough to put up with the nato. If it was $200 then I'd put up with any strap and just change it.

The $300 Seiko gold turtle is more like it but yeah, if you can put up with the changes Orient make there's a lot better value there. I pretty much daily a Triton.

        • better lume

It's kind of sad that in the end the lume on watches will eventually die completely. I've been eyeing Ball watches recently simply because of their tritium lume. So tempting…

          • @Ghost47: tritium has a half of 12 yrs i believe… so after 12yrs you have very low lume

people might say after 12yrs who cares? well its $2,000+ watch. you kinda dont want to mess with opening it up and what not if you dont have to.

saying that normal lume will also degrade but its easier to swallow at $299.

            • @tonyjzx: 50% lume after 12 years though, and Ball lume seems to be decently bright.. maybe it's not terrible after 12 years? But yes that's probably a good point. Kind of annoying that lume "wears out" so to speak, maybe I should invest in a Timex, Indiglo > lume.

Once Starbuy sees this they will beat the price!

Other than GrandSeiko Springdrive and Credor Eichi, i prefer Citizen watches

This is a good price. I'm holding out for the bracelet version SRPE55K to come down in price a bit more.

  • And an extra $10 off if you sign up to their newsletter?

  • Why is the crown at the 4 o'clock position? I like everything about that watch except the crown position.

    • +2

It's supposedly to stop it digging into the wrist and protect it in adverse conditions.

      • Hmm I see, sounds like plausible reasons.

  • are these coming with international or au warranty?

    • +1

      I'll answer my own question.
3 Year Seiko Australia, NZ Warranty
      1 Year Seiko International Warranty

I think $279 is too much for this watch. Perhaps a deal if it had a bracelet. I agree with Xyron above, there are better value prospects with Orient. The Kamasu has a sapphire crystal and and screw down which the Seiko is lacking. I like the Seiko design language (I have many), but these are a backwards step from the SKX line.

If you are OK with homages, you can pick up a Heimdallr SKX which is pretty much a copy, with the same Seiko movement, sapphire crystal, screw down crown, ceramic bezel and you choice of SS bracelet with a milled clasp for ~$181 AUD after discount.

I quite like the Steel Dive aesthetic… their SD1996 SKX looks neat at something like $150 aud but in the end, why do I want that? I have the Triton already and I'm full up with nh35 shiz.

People want the Seiko brand name really and Seiko are soaking them with these made in china things. You can see the pure profit they're making.

This come down to my price category values. Under $200 I dont care too much and will risk things.

At $300 I wont. When it gets to $500+ then I'm after something really special, like the Triton.

A $300 Seiko 5 is eh… too much for the little you get.
