Best Korean Grill Plate - Any Recommendations?

Hi OB community,

I've been doing a lot of home-cooking and visited a korean friend who had a very strong, heavy, sturdy and functioning grill pan. It seared the meat and cooked it nicely - similar to that of a BBQ rather than pan frying.

I decided to buy one but couldn't find the exact model and the outcome was similar to pan frying rather than BBQ.

He bought it at KOMART in North Strathfield, NSW but they no longer stock it. Does anyone know how I can order this iteam from overseas or any recommendations on a quality grill pan?

I'm not too sure how well it would suit you but I bought a kbbq hot plate from J-Mart in West Ryde. I tend to use them with the butane gas stove and they work pretty well. http://koreanbbqonline.com.au/product/korean-hot-plate-round…

The one I bought has an open channel to make cleaning out the oil residue easier.

    • That's probably the exactly one I bought at Lidcombe as a second best option. It is fairly lightweight in construction.

I felt like it cooked the meat similar to that of my fry pan rather than bbq.

  • some asian grocers stock them, as well as those burners that use canister butane gas

if you visit a major/big one you might be able to find it, i got mine at springvale vic kfl. the pan is slightly tilted, with a tail that drips oil (put a small bowl) for 30, and the gas stove was about 30 as well.

I bought TeChef - Stovetop Korean BBQ. It's so good, I bought another 2 later on so now I have 3.

    • I was reading reviews and considered getting this one. Can you comment on how well it cooks and weather it is a heavy? I definitely prefer a strong sturdy model that cooks well.

      • It's not heavy as it's made of aluminum. Cooks meat really fast - I'm using it on the stove. Easy to burn the meat if you don't pay attention.

    • How easy is it to clean? How much oil do you put down before cooking?

Is it worth 3-4x the price of regular one?

      • I do not use oil as I'm using it for pork belly and wagyu beef only. Cleaning is the main reason why I bought this one. It's easy because it has just one draining hole and it's dishwasher safe.

If you must buy the exact item, you might try ordering from GMarket
This is one of online store like ebay in Korea, and some of the sellers ships to Australia as well.

*Just realised that the website is showing ebay at the bottom of the page. I guess this company is owned by ebay Korea.

    • Thanks, I did 2 hours of searching and found this too. That site has exact item but unfortunately they don't ship to Australia. Thanks again for the suggestion

      • That's odd. If you click the link in my comment, it takes you directly to the page. It says "Ship to Australia> Available". The shipping cost is really expensive tho($56.35).

        • Whoops, I meant I managed to find the particular grill from that website but the two specific sellers don't ship to Australia.

  • I've always wondered how they clean those grills. So shiny when they bring them out and absolutely destroyed after a few rounds.
