Cheapest was the $49 eBay Plus preorder deal, which unlike other eBay Plus deals was easier to obtain (it sold out in 3 minutes, instead of a few seconds like the other deals).

  • +4

Game is good for about $10

The plot is infuriatingly SJW + PC BS

    • +2

Would you like to attempt to explain that opinion?

  • +2

Sensational game, well worth the money.

  • +7

Finished the game and errr what was SJW and political about this game?

    • +4

There's nothing political or SJW about it at all, just snowflakes offended at the presence of LGBTQ characters in their game.

      • +4

The game had strong political elements, Druckman himself has openly stated that his personal politics find their way into his games.

There were gay characters in the first game, nobody cared. There’s one trans character in the sequel. Funnily enough, it was members of the trans community that highlighted issues with the portrayal of the trans character in the game, not the “snowflakes”.

  • +7

Let's be honest here, no one bought the original for its gameplay, which was at the end of the day, pretty mediocre and was outdone by Metal Gear Solid and others. The only main difference between the two games is the dodge function, so if you're coming into part 2 expecting something better than the original from 7 years ago, you won't find it here. The director of this game stated that not once did their team focus on 'trying to make a game that was fun' and it shows.

Everyone loved the original because of its story and characters, which have honestly not been handled well here. Characters often make nonsensical decisions throughout the game that don't line up with their characters, and is ultimately too long and terribly paced to be enjoyable for the entire 25hrs it goes for and the order that events are told in doesn't help either. If you're looking for something as good as the original, you won't find it here.

All in all, the level of polish here is excellent, with a great amount of detail, but in every other aspect its a bad sequel to the original.

    • +3

I wholeheartedly agree with this review.

Visuals incredible, polish amazing. Gameplay hasn't changed much, but it was fun to start with, so that's OK for me. But the story was meh, they unnecessarily shoved certain social justice themes down my throat at the cost of the characters and TLOU world.

Instead of Joel you have a lesbian Jewish girlfriend that you smoke weed with… and as two 50kg teenagers you constantly tackle and wrestle over humanoids that have a 20kg weigh advantage over you and win… why?

I'm only 5 hours in and don't feel drawn to it the same was TLOUR totally sucks you in. Have stopped playing.

      • -1

oh man you're only 5 hours in, lol they even throw pregnancy as an excuse to manipulate the audience to caring about characters.

And there's like 1 pregnant lady that no one questions when she goes out patrolling with the group because "strong independent women" (sorry to offend any girls/women here, but she's like 7 months pregnant and going out on a infected world is really endangering herself and her child, and any parent would see or at least consult her about it real life, but in this game it's all about the plot).

I think all in all, we're all disappointed the way the writers threw away Ellie's character, her personality was demolished into a soulless character who was once someone that was really interesting in the first one, and the characters surrounding her (Dina, Jessie) were just there so they could be included in her story, and nothing else.

      • +3

"Instead of Joel you have a lesbian Jewish girlfriend that you smoke weed with"

oh no sounds horrible. And she's Jewish? oh my

        • -3

Sheesh… there is nothing wrong with this (or any themes) in isolation, of course.

It's the unrealistic, over-represented and unnecessary combination of minorities, races, religions, sexual preferences, gender changing, statistically unlikely interracial relationships, drug use and so on and the changes required to the story to shove them all in and spotlight them that makes the whole thing a turn off.

          • +4

@MementoMori: That does sound serious. Interracial relationships? uh oh. How many are there? Does this game even have a story or is just 20 hours of unnecessary post-apocalypse relationship drama and drug use?

            • @Arlowe77: I agree, this sounds scandalous. How can you focus on the story when there are things like interracial relationships and bi-sexuality going on?

Personally, I loved the story, loved the characters, loved the ending. I didn't even notice this "Woke SJW" nonsense people are banging on about because…they're just characters?
Ellie's character is flawed in a human way, bent on revenge and I think the story shows off how destructive it can be and the costs that come with it.

I had some complaints about the combat being a bit repetitive and creeping around being useless as you just go from engagement to engagement with not much in between (so crawling through grass all the time is a pointless endeavour) but overall I rate it highly. 9/10.

            • @Arlowe77: I'm only a couple of hours in and it's all of them.

Again, nothing wrong with it, other than being statistically unlikely and unnecessary Kalgeri plan-esq.

  • I'm seeing $69?

  • This or RDR2?

    • RDR2 gameplay and living world makes this feel like a game from 2011 still . Characters are much more likeable too

    • +1

RDR2 has a better story and gameplay than this. And multiplayer (but probably don't get into it because it's trash as hell, just as any Rockstar multiplayer game these days - looking at you GTA Online).

If you love the first game's story in Last of Us, you won't like the way they took the story at all. If you never played any in the series might as well grab Last of Us Part 2 from a friend or just rent it.

    • +1

I prefer this over RDR2 for story and gameplay, but I would suggest getting both. Who needs time to do real life things anyway.

  • The best game of all time.

Incredible, complex and diverse characters. Astounding world building, graphics & sound. And an absolutely killer story.

Do not miss out on the chance to play this important game!

  • +3

This game did NOT do well in based Japan.

Saw photos of huge piles of unsold copies, giveaways, specials..

    • -1

It literally broke the sales record when it launched.
But yeah, keep pushing some dumb narrative that it sold poorly in Japan lol.

      Imagine clicking and believing clickbait.

      • +3

It sold well because the public opinion generally doesn't affect first week sales, and people dismiss them (as they should) because a lot of people hadn't finished the game yet.

Come second week, the games sales dropped 85.4%, a bigger drop than any other game on the entire platform, once real people posted actual opinions upon finishing the game.

Overall, this games sales won't compare to the first

      • +4

It only broke sales record because of its previous game and how long fans have been waiting for a sequel.

This won't happen if they release Last of Us Part 3 (and the fact that Sony won't give anyone refunds might say a lot about the sales records, since so many couldn't return them).

  • Review comes close to my view (Not a very high opinion of the game)

    https://www.escapistmagazine.com/v2/the-last-of-us-part-ii-z…

Ghost of Tsushima is quite good and the Platinum Trophy is gettable before the game mechanics become tiresome. It's not God of War, but it's much funner than TLOU2.

    • +4

Ghost of Tsushima is beautiful, exremely beautiful. but in essence, another assassins creed. which is getting really really old. I'm still going through it tho :)

      • +1

        Completely agree.

I don't know how they load that serene and everchanging game world in under 5 seconds on a 7-year-old console. The gameplay is silky smooth and the subtext of honour is so well handled.

My one slight is that I felt the armour could have been done in a way that materially changes the way you approach combat scenarios. But by the time you have them levelled out, you've exceeded the point where it's hard to die/easy to mash triangle to kill anything and the only way to buff the enemies is to make the game harder (Very similar to Assassin's Creed after 15-20 hours of levelling).

I suppose this is imposed on game studios as levelling to godlike status is the payoff for playtime in games with levelling trees.

  • I loved the gameplay, its been 4 years since I completed the remaster so cant comment too much on story comparisons but agree the first was much better. The story I think starts off well and even most of the first half is great but the dual timelines and second half is fairly farcical. I still didn't mind where it went and what doors the ridiculousness opens. the fact that jackosn to seattle is so quick then the rest is this back and forth through a small part of america was also odd. Also the beating of the horse of redemption. let me out of the theatre ffs.

gameplay wise at first i thought it sucked because id completely forgotten the slow teetering gameplay opening thousands of draws etc of the first but its a slow burn that makes the big moments better and does pick up gradually with more enemies and better weaponry. thematically i think this is great like a thriller.

Perfect time to discover this post

    • +3

      That painful, heh?

  • I have to say, I prefer Witcher 3 story telling way because it gives you option to choose between bad/worse endings, but TLOU2 only let you watch the bad ending…

    • +3

This is why I prefer the Give Yourself Goosebumps choose your own adventure books to Moby Dick - no bad endings that way.
