    No they are hydraulically activated, little handle on the side which you hold and lift/lower to your desired height. I purchased the Fortia one in my comment above for $225 around Feb (there was a ~20% off sale then, probably unlikely to happen now), really easy to raise and lower, they are hard to get within a cm of the height your after but can get close enough.

    There is no weight issue when you try to lift it, I have a laptop, computer screen, tablet on mine and have no issues, not movement when I rest my elbow and head on it either so pretty sturdy. Use it almost every day for full time work and study, works a treat.
