  • You can get a free cloth mask at your council offices or local chemist as of today.

    • Is that nation-wide?

      • I think VIC only.

There is more info in the Herald Sun online, but you need a paid subscription to read it.

There's probably be more details about in from other sources later in the day. It starts from today though, but not everyone may yet have stock.

A week after they became mandatory?

Great timing Vic, on the move!

      • A week after they became mandatory?

It's a lot cheaper for them that way.

      • A week after they became mandatory?

There was plenty of time where it was obvious they would become beneficial, if not mandatory.

It's shouldn't always be up to the government to hold peoples' hands.

        • I've been buying and using masks since February… So what's your point?

My point is the Govt kept promising them and the number keeps changing, at one stage it was 5 million (for Vic)…

Not long ago, our health department advise mask is not necessary and will not prevent spreading.

    • Local Councils: We have no idea about this offer
Later on… OH we have been told by the Vic Government we will be have them from Monday for distribution.

Why the government said "from today" when its "from Monday"

and the media is failing to point out they are for those "most vulnerable" and some councils will be asking for a health care or pension card to qualify for one.

and some councils will be asking for a health care or pension card to qualify for one.

        But aborigines qualify.

    probably to match/beat coles price

  • Cheers - was running low. Picked up 2 at the discounted rate with collection mostly available across Sydney NSW.

  • Softmed are made in Wuhan - China :(

    • +3

      The experts.

    • not all
      blue are made in wuhan
      white are not

depends on the batch you get

      • Haven't seen the blue ones for weeks, I think they are the old batch. Some CW Staff are still wearing them though, perhaps they've kept the better ones for themselves…?

I find it hard to breathe when walking, with the white ones.

        • I find it hard to breathe when walking

          Asthma perhaps?

          • +3

@jv: I do not have asthma.

Unless I'm caught at Brighton/Bunnings/Kmart/KFC etc without a valid reason

WuHan has fewer positives than NSW currently. They dont want VIC gets any where near it!

Bought 6x packs at $49/ea last week. Sonnofa…

    • Yeh feel ripped paying $55 for the TGA 'approved' ones from Office works. :(

Only bought a single box though.

  • 8 1-star reviews seems not convincing ….
If you are costco member better get it from costco
same price $35/50piece and at least they are separately packaged (1pc/bag)

  • Price discount on quality Aus Standard approved products: TGA ARTG 337122 TGA ARTG 333133. Good jobs Chemist Warehouse, unlike Priceline pulling Chinese no quality standard masks out of the pack and selling them individually for $3 each. Shame Priceline!

  • I'd rather see deals on reasonably priced reusable cloth masks. Not designer crap for $70. Something in the vicinity of $5-$10 per cloth mask max seems reasonable.

Check in one of your local community facebook groups. Lots for sale.

People out of work are making them to make ends meet.

However, most medical masks have a layer of filtration material inside, unlike 'home made' ones.

Still gives some protection, but they aren't 100% identical.

        • unlike 'home made' ones.

          My 'home made' one does…

          • @jv: "In general" probably should have been said……usually the exception rather than the rule (from what I've seen at least).

I'm also not talking about any type of middle layer, I'm talking specific polypropylene filtration material.

I haven't seen many that specifically state that they do (ie have a similar material to a proper 'medical mask' - excl that cheap no idea what it's made of stuff.)

  • This isn't getting as many upvotes as I thought it would. Is there a reason I shouldn't buy these (or a better deal?)

    • Probably because it's wasteful to use disposable nowadays. Like in my case, I'm walking my dog 2x a day.
If I use a disposable, that's 2 masks per day.

      • -1

Maybe you don't need them walking the dog, very very little danger outside by yourself.

        • Nah, everyone are wearing one in Metro Melbourne all dog walkers are wearing one.

          • @3per: Ah, you are in Melbourne, OK.

      • Thanks. I'm not in Melbourne and happy to have both a disposable and cloth option.

    • Everyone already has masks and don't really need 2 more boxes? Especially since buying them last week at other stores for $35 vs $49 at CW ;)
If they sold them at $35 per box, maybe some of us would pick up an extra, but two?

  • damn this has a lot of shitty reviews

    • Which ones are the good ones to buy?

    • damn this has a lot of shitty reviews

If 10,000 people buy them and 9,950 are totally satisfied with them, you'll most likely hear from the 50 who are unhappy for whatever reason, valid or not, rather than the 9,950 who are happy.

  • It’s a bit pricey compared to what you might be able to source elsewhere but the quality is pretty decent.

Was given a box the other day. The loops hold on well and the plys don’t just feel like toilet paper.
