Warranty Situation When Buying Electronics from Amazon US through Amazon AU

I've considered buying computer components from Amazon US through Amazon AU but have been put off by potentially ending up with a dud with no support.
Searching online, I can't find a definitive answer on what kind of warranty is provided when purchasing imported products and specifically from Amazon US from Amazon AU.
Deals appear to be popular here and I was wondering if ozbargainers are just risking it or that there is some warranty provided.

I bought one of those TMobile branded Asus routers, it arrived fine but was clearly second hand and faulty.

I put in a request and Amazon asked me to send it back, I explained how much its going to cost to go from Australia to the US and after a few back and forward emails they agreed to cover the full cost of shipping after they got it back. I wasn't very optimistic but sent it back and after a few weeks sure enough they refunded the item and my shipping expense. The whole process was a bit of a pain in the backside but they came through in the end.

    • That’s good to hear, at least DOA items are covered. I’m still wondering what if it breaks down after a few months. Local products have at least 1 year warranty, usually more.

I've had a similar good experience returning a product to Amazon US via AU. Had to print off a label for the inside and outside and took the package to a petrol station.

YMMV but my warranty claim experiences from Amazon have all been positive. They have offered to do right me on a few occasions (refund/replacement).

In one instance, I was asked to contact the manufacturer for assistance and to report back if I had any issues. The manufacturer (Nvidia) said warranty was not international but honored it anyway by sending me a replacement.
