Centrelink Is Now Refunding Robodebts

So happy that legal firm managed to convince Centrelink to repay everyone. If you get an sms from mygov telling you you got a message don't be afraid to have a look!!!

My case was about $1800, I couldn't afford the time needed to dispute it by gathering years-old payslips as I had an overseas trip booked for a few weeks later, and the letter told me they would block me from travelling if I didn't pay it :( So I had to just suck it up even though it was wrong. So happy to be getting it back, will be like getting two tax refunds!

Never said I was :-p Was from when I was a student and working casually then I think got a full time job the same financial year. So they would have averaged my full time earnings over to the part of the year I was declaring casual income, and decided I was paid too much from C'link.

You should be holding the government up by the ankles and shaking real hard to see what falls out, zero shame

If only you knew how the government pisses away money, take all you can

          1. The grammar (or lack thereof).
          2. The baseless stories of people on Centrelink payments wasting money on clothes etc.
          3. The ridiculous assumption that you will never need or take any assistance from the government.
          4. Your general d_ucheness.
          • @Luo18740: hey thanks for ur response, um i would say
            1. most people my age talk like this when writing a casual comment like this, its not meant to be an essay
            2. i meant that the friends i know who qualified for youth allowance all had cloths and shoes worth a hell of lot more than mine (talking about teens hence meaning their clothes are bought by their parents not them), honestly this might have more to do with me and my family not seeing value in branded cloths but it wasjust an observation
            3. never said that
heres the thing before corona i knew people in the same uni classes/ mates from school on youth allowance getting 400 a fortnight for no work, at the same time i was working 3 shifts at maccas usually 4 hours each and earning 16.6 an hour(was 17 for the first half of uni), do u wanna take a guess how much i got per fornight for working 24 hours? 400 the same amount my peers were getting for no work on a basic level this doesnt seem far to me and yes u can say well what if u were this or he was that, but ive never seen any actual explanation why this is fair.
            4. dont really know what to say to that but have a good night i guess

Your horrible anecdotal evidence is not proof of anything, bruv. Says more about the company you keep than anything else, to be honest.

im gonna be paying for all these programs leftover goverment debt smfh

You should be looking to the staggering debt the LNP shafted Australia into before the Robodebt/COVID was a thing. Trust me, it ain't social benefits that are putting Australia into insane debts.

        • ummm i feel like u might have made an assumption about my support of political parties, as far as im aware the liberals are in charge now, i made a comment critising the current way job keeper/seeker/youth allowance is being run now pretty obvious im not exactly a liberal supporter

          • @forgotoldacc: I wasn't commenting on your possible political persuasions - trust me.

I like the way they led off with "We are sorry…"

Lol yep like they came to the realisation they did the wrong thing on their own

FYI can see your address under the marker if you print it out and hold it up to the light.

      Why did you do that?

    • Can't tell if you're joking lol

        I assume he is.

      • You need to merge the layers in PS. If you open the file in Photoshop you can remove the brush layer and see the original document.

Or you could just click enhance and get fingerprints while you are at it.

Not everyone is getting a refund yet, just those who didn't dispute it. I disputed and gave them my bank statements as I couldn't get payslips. As a result, they included everything, including the expenses that had been paid to me as income - even when it wasnt. Similar story - I had an overseas trip, so i ended up letting it go and paying it.

No refund for me yet - but hopefully with more info on the lawsuit, i could at least get the money back that they claimed was income when it wasn't.

    • Good luck!

I disputed mine last year and submitted bank statements too, but still received a refund yesterday. I'm not sure how they determine what order they contact people in, but I did hear that it could take weeks or months before they process all the refunds, so yours could still be in the pipeline. Good luck.

      • This is good to know!

Same boat, lodged a dispute around Feb after I finally got the payslips from old employer. Never heard anything from them after that even though they said I would be updated about my dispute.

Ended up getting the Robodebt refund yesterday in 2 payments as they seem to max out at $5k per payment.

    • Take them for all their worth. Sue the government for trillions, declare yourself PM, and wipe all our debt.

    • Do you have a source for the bit about only getting a refund if you didn't dispute it please?

      • Well, I thought this was the case but others here have said they are getting their refunds after providing information on here so not too sure…

I recommend joining the facebook group "fighting centrelink robodebt together" as the people who are involved in the lawsuit are in this and provide updates. They mentioned they are assessing people who provided bank statements differently, which is why no one has been refunded yet.

        • Thanks. I provided too much info.. I proved that the amount I earned in the review period was OK, but the pdf of my payslips had future payments so they extended the review period :(

    what is Robodebts?
what are you guys talking about? i have no idea

It is the extra tax they impose on humans with cyber augmentations.

We do not have a choice but pay as the corporations would deactivate our augmentations, often to serious consequences.

Yeah, look what happened to Brixton when he let his payment to Eteon lapse.

      • They probably spent the Robodebt money on a 6000 SUX for the PM.

Now for round 2 with the ATO & early super release.

  • Is the refund automatic? i.e. just goes straight into the same bank account as where current Jobseeker payments go that is linked to your Centrelink account?

And will this appear as a record in your Centrelink account?

    • No you have to go through a little workflow to update your contact information and bank information. Instructions are in the letter.

    • going into the centrelink portal has the same thing

You can check if you are eligible for a refund by:

Signing in to myGov and go to Centrelink.
Select Payments and Claims – Manage payments from the menu.
Select Income Compliance refund query to see if you’re eligible for a refund.
