  • I would say go for the (269-84) Nexus S from Vodafone (via Moneybackco).

    • they're out of stock online, at least they were last night. but yeah I agree.

edit: in stock now. Do you have to get the $35 starter kit with it?

    • You will have 10% off because $84 is applicable for plans (postpaid) only and I would go via Buckscoop to avoid the $10 annual fee.

    • nexus s doesnt have sd card slot, major -ve imho

    • why do u say that? i am seriously considering teh incredible s but am open to getting a better phone!

      • well you have no expandable memory, on the internal memory

        • ah yeah, i was more trying to question the original post by terryWANG.

          but thanks!

  • Can you use this phone with TPG sim card?

    thanks

    • The optus locked Huawei X1 works with TPG, I can only assume this one will as well.

    • Yes, TPG uses the same network as Optus

    • +1

Yes. You can use it with Optus and all there resellers (LiveConnected, Virgin, TPG, Amaysim, Savvytel)

  • Does anyone happen to know how many colours there for us to choose and will it offer pick up or online only?

  • Is the Optus bloatware similar/identical to that on the MyTab? I didn't find that all too annoying to have on the tablet (apart from the fact that it uses up memory). With 1.1Gb internal storage, I don't think this will be an issue for the Incredible S though.

    • Their sizes at pretty small and won't cause much impact on your internal storage but it's the memory RAM that is affected. Though listed as 768 mb, only 614 mb is utilised and generally 140+ mb remained for you to use.

      • The optus apps will be on the system partition anyway so wont affect how much space left you have to use on the data partition. But no point having them running if your not going to use them.

  • i bought my incredible s from optus with 24 months plan and i am currently able to use other sim card(international) eventhough i havent unlocked it yet.

    • Phones bought under contract usually are already unlocked. But not the case for prepaid handsets which is why they are cheaper.

  • picked it up & bought one already at kmart. they let you buy it as long as you mention it i think.

  • Awesome deal. Going in on friday to get one

  • Anyone can confirm the suburbs in Sydney that has this in stock? called Fairfield Kmart and they dont even know what I'm talking about

    • I bought it from there in the morning guy had to go in the back to get one.

  • Bought one. 6 left at Ingle Farm.
Now tempted by the Acer A501 bargain.

  • +1

got one from belmont kmart last night.

    pros:
Came with free 16gb micro sd and 1.1 gb internal storage
    Nice fast machine
better wifi reception than my galaxy tab (also $299)
    htc sense which i like
    nice screen size
    good music player and sound
    free maps by route 66
    768mb ram, a bit better than 512mb

    cons:
    locked
battery may not last for a day
    stupid optus staff
need to pay for turn by turn nav (samsung's free)

    a bargain for $300

    • +1

Yeah, the 16Gb micro sd was a nice surprise. Quite generous.

From what I've read, the battery should last for around 1 - 1.5 days. It's got better battery than the Desire HD.

    • +2

You can use the Navigation feature in the Google Maps which is free.

And make sure you don't get any task/app killers which will make your phone crash and drain up your battery. Don't leave the WiFi setting on when you're out and be aware of the sync settings of the apps you have like Facebook or Twitter and the phone should be able to last the whole day.

  • +1

Anyone who purchased the phone, how bad is the bloatware on it? Is it easy to live with, or is it in-yo-face and a pain in the ass?

That's what will seal it for me..

    • +4

If you change the scene/theme all the optus apps and wallpaper is gone. All apps screen theres only 3-4 optus apps but there all on the last few screens.

      • If that's all there is I might just get one on the way home and unlock it. It's my number one choice for a new phone and the only thing stopping me is the branding.

I might go in to an optus store and see if they have one set up, that will probably have the branding on it and I can see for myself I guess :)

        • +5

Checked again theres 5 optus apps theres no optus branding if you change the scene.

        • thanks wonderboy :)

      • The Optus apps are still in the app drawer and if you check Settings-> Applications-> Running Services, you'll see some running and taking up the RAM.

        • I noticed that - I tried killing them but they come up again several minutes later. The same when using advanced task killer - certain random apps just open up by themselves and run in the background. Any ideas how to stop this? (I'm new to android)

        • You shouldn't be killing apps because that's not how Android manages tasks, contrary to the common belief that killing apps is good which is not as it drains the battery more when the apps restart themselves.

You can only monitor and see which apps always run in the background even though you never use or seldom use and uninstall them. Unless they are the bloatwares that came with the phone like Optus' which you can't remove unless you root the phone.

        • is a temporary root possible with this phone in S-On? Would that then allow you to remove the bloatware?

    • Is it possible to change the home page of the browser so it does not go to the optus zoo page?

  • got the last and only one from brimbank

  • +2

I got one this morning. at the KARDINYA Kmart Perth WA.

  • +1

Got one at Waratah Village, Newcastle.
16GB SDcard including. It s just awesome!

  • Got one from Optus store Chatswood, Sydney.

    Nice deal!

    • I would love to know which Optus store in Chatswood sold you this phone because today I have been to both the one in Chatswood Chase and the one in Westfield, and I was told that the phone is still $479 outright, and no one there had heard that it was even going prepaid.

The Kmart in Chatswood Chase is also out of stock.

  • can this phone be unlocked for free?
i heard s.o said we can say to customer service we will go oversea and ask them unlock for free, is it worked?
    :-)

    • is work for me :-)

      • i called them but they said i need to pay $80

        u r so lucky mate

        :)))

  • I bought mine from KMart Innaloo in WA :)

They had a few on the shelf. I'm looking forward to opening it :D

  • anyone has problem with wifi connection. I couldnt connect to my home network. what could be the problem there? The IS not support open network?

  • i cant get to a kmart currently as im out of the country .. anyone know if you can order these things online ?

  • fairfield, parramatta, broadway out of stock :-/ confirmed as i went to all these stores today

  • I Bought one of these yesterday, Optus charge $80 to unlock or you have to be connected for 6 months or spent at least $80 on pre-paid sim. I called and got this response which is what it says on their website. Anyway I ended up unlocking it for $25 here: http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/ and works perfectly. Still cheap at $324

    • -1

i did the same with that website riggit. using it with my 3 SIM now, the code was emailed to me in about 45 minutes. i couldn't be bothered ringing optus and speaking to them, and also waiting for them to give me a code lol.

Plus, you know, I used my Dad's credit card using the excuse that he doesn't get charged FOREX fees hehe

  • Did any successfully to unlock HTC IS from http://www.htcimeiunlock.com as riggit provided above?

    Cheers

    • Just bought it took 5mins to get the code and worked.

  • One more question, Does it have logo of optus comes up when turning on the HTC IS?

  • Most Kmarts in Victoria are sold out for the time being. More stock on the way I was told.

However Optus World are also selling it for the same price with stock at most stores as of late this afternoon.

    • National wide or state wide?

    • available online ? coz i cant seem to find it

  • I've confirmed with an Optus store that this deal is not exclusive to Kmart but is available in all Optus outlets.

    • Does this mean competitors like Big W will have it?

      • I've not tried BigW. May be not yet but I think it's just a matter of time before all major outlets, perhaps even the supermarkets will have the same deal.

    • i called them up and not in stock, anyone know where's available?

  • Anyone know which stores in Sydney still have this in stock?

    • Ended up buying it from Australia Post hehe

  • I bought two on friday from Kmart Belconnen, ACT for $269.10 each. Yesterday another mate went back to same store with a copy of my receipt but they refused to price match!!!
I use TPG … so its a bargain at that price. 16GB card is a great!!

  • Is this deal still avaliable?
