    17inch chassis and still max q :/

If I remember right, the version after this one R3 has a full 2070Super.

    • +1

yeah the r2 had thermal issues, its all over reddit

Yep the R3 seems to have improved this (and the keyboard) based on my casual Youtube review watching.

Not sure if the "full 2070 Super" is necessarily correct given the whole MQ vs Super (mobile) vs Super (desktop) etc… feels like we go in circles when it comes to meaningful naming conventions!

        • I stand correct, the R3 has a 2070Super with 90W TDP, that woltage would severely crippled it.

          • @Raven1366: So, I presume same wattage as this Max q variant instead of recommended 115 wattage for super mobile? I wonder how much gain in performance would that make compared to maxq.

            • @PegasusBruce: I would say marginally. I have had mixed experiences, I used to have an Alienware 15 R3 with 1070, and that thing was a monster. it would max out anything that I threw at it.

  • If only I had the money !

Isn't that what jobseeker/job keeper for?

      Or withdraw your super?

      /s

      • haha now I wish I had jobkeeper pay lol

    • If only it had morediscount

Keep in mind this R2 has thermal issues etc that are improved on the M17 R3.

hmm.. $360 more and using previous CPU and ineffective cooling for a brand name?.. Honestly go for the G7 instead. Have to remember that the RAM is Soldered on the motherboard and is NOT upgradable.

Don't think it's quite that black and white.

10th Gen vs 9th Gen for some users is less of an issue when your paying for a significantly better build and aesthetic. Resale on this unit is always going to better than the G series.

I think both are awesome deals and both have their place.

    I think G7 17 2070 for $1999 has better value

  • CPU is a shocker , no way they can push for an older CPU with higher price!!
No option to customize as well if i remember correctly

    • Was 10th gen really that big a step up over 9750H (or even 8750H) when you have dedicated graphics? I would've thought it's all much of a muchness.

      • if you run a VM on your laptop yes it does sometimes , not applicable to everybody of course

        • Both 6c / 12t cpus, there is only a very small clock/boost difference to my knowledge which isn't gonna do much in real world applications. TBH i think even the 8750h vs 10750h prob isnt that big of a jump. Maybe im wrong, i guess 1080p gaming a small amount but i wouldn't expect vm/workload apps to show much dif.

Build quality better than g7, more attractive, probably 10% lighter as well. Thermals difficult to comment.

G7 is probably 10-15% faster. And 15% cheaper.

There you go. Summed up the differences. :)

I think I'll go for alienware rather than g7.

    • Thermals are bad for both, but from what I've researched the support for the alienware with regards to fixes (repasting and undervolting) are way better, and fixes do not void warranty. Just wish the cpu was the newer gen
