Got this quickly from a review site, I've had moto g phones in the past and they are great value for money. Not sure what other points should be made.

    GOOD STUFF
    Excellent battery life
    Headphone jack
    Sensible Android tweaks
    Solid day-to-day performance

    BAD STUFF
    No wireless charging
    Finicky camera exposure
    No Android 10 at launch
    No IP water resistance rating

    Antutu benchmark 143,000

Since when has wireless charging and IP water resistance rating become a thing ?

      • Don't know. I personally don't need either.
        Maybe I'm just boring.

I find IP water resistance is reassuring when rain drops on my phone.
As for wireless charging, I personally don't use it, but many other people do.

        • I've had many phones with IP ratings get absolutely denied warranty claims from water ingress. Not worth the premium imo.

    • Any idea what finicky camera exposure means? My G6 Plus is very good, can't imagine this would be worse.
      Nvm, found the review https://www.theverge.com/2019/11/8/20953419/motorola-moto-g8…

    • To add to "bad stuff", at least relative to the OPPO A52 which is in the same price range - 1yr warranty vs 2yr on the OPPO.

I had a moto g5+ a couple years back and it was a great phone, but the micro usb port stopped charging just outside of the 1yr warranty and turned the phone into a brick. Obviously the G8 has USB type C, which should be sturdier and less likely to have this issue, but my experience with the g5+ taught me that a 2yr warranty is really nice to have.

I also prefer motorola's android customisations over colorOS on the OPPO, but the moto phones only ever seem to get 1 major version upgrade and they get it 6+ months after other brands - similar to Nokia speed. My guess is that given that OPPO lauds colorOS so much, it should hopefully get more frequent updates and longer support (especially given a 2yr warranty - it'd be odd to offer that without 2yrs of updates to go with it).

The moto g8+ has the slight hardware edge over the A52 with the camera, but i'm not sure if it does dual sim and micro sd simultaneously (i.e. 3 slots) like the OPPO does.

I'd probably have bought one over the A52 if they were available for ~$300 locally, but that still looks to be a while off given we are only now hitting that for grey stock.

      • What's the statutory warranty for a decent smart phone? 2 years sounds reasonable. I'd have pressed the point strongly. G6 has USB type C. Inventors of the earlier one-way-only slot should be doing community service for stupidity imo.

I'd probably have bought one over the A52 if they were available for ~$300 locally

        It's $299 RRP locally? $279 @ Kogan/Amazon atm top.

        • At the time I bought the A52 the cheapest G8 plus that was local stock (not just shipped locally, non grey stock so Motorola warranty) was still $352.

Also not sure how you came up with $299 as RRP, the official Motorola Australia store lists RRP as $449, currently on sale for $399 there and at major retailers such as JB HiFi.
The cheapest price on OzBargain for this phone was $352 for local stock in June.
Even this deal for grey stock is over $300, how do you figure $299 is the RRP?

          • @Wilburre: Sorry mate, I thought you were referring to the A52 being $300. My bad on the misreading.

            • @CVonC: Ah sorry mate, was referring to the G8+ to explain why I bought the A52 instead. Yeah retail on the A52 is $299, got mine from the all phones eBay deal recently.

              • @Wilburre: Do you use Google Maps via Android Auto on it? I've read it's laggy from some users.

  • Hi.

Do you have the OnePlus Nord in stock ready to ship. I was after the 13/256GB Blue

    • Yes, we have the following item… thanks!!
OnePlus Nord AC2003 12GB/256GB 5G Dual Sim - Blue Marble

      • Is it in stock ready to ship? And do you have any discount codes

  • What would warranty be like in this situation?

    • +2

Best case scenario they'll ask you to send it back to HK and then praying I'm afraid

    • They have 1yr warranty from Motorola for local stock, but as this is grey stock it has a 1yr warranty that is covered by TD themselves, i.e you are never dealing with the OEM - that could be good or bad, but considering they are based in HK, there will be a time consideration.

This is the main reason I went for the OPPO A52 over the MotoG8+ - 2yr local warranty from OPPO themselves.
