Can I Still Sell My Car Privately under Victoria's Stage 4 Restrictions?

Hi Ozbargainers,

I am an international student and I have finished my Master so I will be boarding one of the rescue flights from my government soon, before stage 4 ends. This means I will have to sell my car during the current stage 4 however I'm not sure if it's possible for the buyers to come inspect given they come alone, within 5km and during daytime (outside curfew) with proper masks and social distancing.

I'm in a bit of a tight spot so any input is appreciated!

Take care and stay safe everyone!

    What car are you selling?

This. I'm looking for a bargain. None here.

      Edit:

      I am an international student

I'm guessing a Camry wagon with no service history

Haha sorry guys I'm just asking for general opinions, should I be posting in general discussions?

Do you have any friends that you trust that could help with the process and remit the funds when sold?

        Edit: too slow.

Yes I might have one in mind

@blacknblue: That might be your best option. Get your friend to sell the car for you and give them a small portion of the money you receive.

I'll give you $100. Cash money. You deliver to my house. Must include RWC.

I feel for you and you are not alone trying to maneuver around these complex stage 4 rules.

Unless the buyer has a legitimate and justifiable need for a car such as inability to go to work (essential and approved workers), to the supermarkets or pharmacy or with a medical condition needing mobility then your buyer would not be able to get to you without risking a fine. Therefore the best option would be to leave it with a friend with signed paperwork so he/she could sell it for you once the restrictions have been removed.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Guess that's the final resort then. Thank you!

It is a tough situation both for selling cars because of prices, lockdown etc so might it be an idea to leave all the paperwork, details etc with a trusted person once lockdown ends as you could sell it to a dealer but you'll get less than an ideal price

I would just list it and not worry about what the buyer does and worry about what you do to stay within restrictions. Ie, daytime sale, mask etc

Get all the paperwork ready and pre-filled with all your details so there is minimum fuss

      Thank you for the input!

Can trade/barter it for essential goods and services.

Sell it to a used car yard if they're open?

I think this is the best solution to quickly get rid of that
