    How many layers are these?

    • I don't know but it says 1mm thickness

      • +19

So this is like chicken wire for viruses ???

        • +5

Think it's just 1 layer. For Melbournites it will save you a fine. That's about it.

          • @Melb69:

So will wearing a scarf of a hanky over your mouth.

            • +13

              @jv: scarf of a hanky??

            • @jv: Not everyone wants to wear a scarf or hanky. Yes you can to save your OZB dollars.

            • +1

@jv: probably cheaper than an LV scarf..

          • @Melb69: So for some, about $1700 less than death. Sweet!

            • @iDroid: A Note 20 Ultra, plus other accessories to spend your dollars on then

There was a large, recent meta-study showing that cloth masks do provide some protection.

This led to the WHO and western health authorities revising their recommendations about wearing masks in indoor settings where social distancing isn't possible. Claims that one layer is ineffective may be possibly be incorrect and not reflect the latest research..

In NSW, I've been trying different cloth masks to get used to wearing them going out, as it may become compulsory like Victoria. I've also got a pack of N95s from Bunnings.

      • I had all along from the start thought we should be wearing masks, but they didn't have the proper testing to advise to wear them. It was only recently in June that the WHO suggested to. For Aus there was also a shortage of masks which the health workers needed. You think toilet paper had a run. If the health workers couldn't get masks we would have no hope. Although it would seem that the virus has taken hold of that field as well even with the masks. Who would have thought in 2020 that facemasks were going to be a fashion item. Keep Safe buddy and it is probably a good idea just to have some reusable and disposable masks handy. I am in Melbourne, so it's mandatory, but supply seems to be good. Heard Bonds are shipping in millions, and alot of other stores are plugging them. Should be enough for all.

      • Link to this meta-study?

Thanks OP; also received the Amex Shop Small notification for a further $5 off for those enrolled

I ordered some of these a few days ago - Guessing it might become compulsory in Sydney eventually to thought best to have something on hand - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wholesale-10pcs-Face-Mask-Outdoo…?

This is coming from China probably take ages to get here.

        Ready for Stage 129 restrictions.

        • Stage 130 is where it gets real. they encase you in a slab of lucite.

    • +4

Functions: anti fog, haze, pollen, dust, tidal current, street racket.

I'd be very interested to see how it works for the last two

    • +1

Prof Sutton said masks with "respirator" is not recommended as it can let infections out if you have COVID..

  • +3

How did you get the amex discount cant see amex as a option to pay for?

  • +5

These are OK, but they're basically wet suit material. If you have glasses i highly recommend not getting them. they get wet from you breathing and they stay wet through the whole day. usually $2 each at umart or $2 dollar stores

    • +2

Mate, wetsuits are made from neoprene.

      • +4

Correct Wetsuits are made with neoprene in the middle layer. That's very astute of you..
These basically feel like Wetsuit material. If it was or wasn't wetsuit material I don't think anyone would care. I was just explaining how they feel to other people.

          • @OzBragain: enjoy those neg votes. GGWP…

            • +1

@H4ydos: …lol. like neg votes on ozbargain of all places matter to anyone anywhere..

            • @H4ydos: Really? A bunch of faceless people behind their keyboards clicking a minus next to my comment…oh the shame.

But thank you, I do get enjoyment knowing I'm being berated by that kind of shallow person who holds value in these things.

              • @OzBragain: I gave a description to help people know what they are looking at buying. you targeted me and didn't contribute to the post in any way.
People have seen our comments and voted in. what did you expect to come after you correct someone on the internet?… Just think about that for a moment "Mate,"

                • @H4ydos:

Happy to agree to disagree. This product is polyester and spandex which you incorrectly claimed to be wet suit material….that isn't helping people it's confusing them. All I did was clarify that wetsuits are made of neoprene (non breathable and impossible to use as a face mask without perforations) and you got your panties in a twist and started gloating about neg votes on my comments.

Clearly you don't understand and I won't waste any more of your time or mine trying to explain.

    • +6

I think they feel more like wearing a speedo on your head than a wetsuit. That's my experience anyway

      • Isn't that the whole purpose?

  • -2

It said good air permeability so looks like won't help protect from Covid 19…unless wear 3 layers of it to simulate 3 layers of fabric?

    • +4

Doubt 3 of them would do much either

    • Yeah the result from this YouTube video where the guy compares a scarf to N95 and a cloth mask shows that the mask you buy is mostly how much you are protecting others from your breath not how much you are protecting yourself from others… But, I do believe the N95 DOES protect you the best when you inhale as it has a filter. They're just really $$$

    • -2

      3 times 0 is 0.

      • That's very stupid of you. You really don't understand how a THRESHOLD works. I'm sure you can break one thin wood stick easily. How about bundle 3 together? How about 100? According to you, you would break 10000000000000000 sticks bundled together easily, because 10000000000000000x0 is 0.

  • +1

These are selling for $5 each all over, if you only need one just swing by your local $2 shop.

Bit on the small side and only seems to be the one size. As someone pointed out these are largely cosmetic and will save you a fine but wont give you much/any protection.

    • -5

swing by your local $2 shop.

      They are all closed

      • +1

I was in one yesterday in Balaclava that was very much not closed.

        • +15

Nothing is closed when you're in a balaclava.

          • @Thrift: Better to stay open than be broken into every night

    • +1

you mean 2 dollar shop selling it for 5 dollars each ?

      • 2 buck shops sell all kinds of gear that costs more (and less) than $2

  • +1

    thanks op

  • +1

Is there anything reusable that is actually decent without going for a full respirator?

    • +3

Cambridge masks. Tested N95 or similar, re-usable. Made in UK. Higher grade also available. Expect shipping delays… There are a variety of Oz-made 3-layer masks online without any claims of performance. Heroes Wear Masks, Australian Face Masks, Australian Made Face Masks, etc.

  • +6

I bought one of these, and I've gotta say I'd rather go with a scarf tied around my face over one of these spandex ones. Uncomfortable and smells like chemicals.

  • +6

    Effective filtration

Of what? Dirt when you're gardening?

  • +2

I prefer cotton on my face than polyester which is made of plastic.

  • They are ok but won’t call it washable, they are made up for foam and very easy to tear.

Best to invest in washable from bonds or cotton on.

  • +5

    Spandex…nice and stretchy.
Put a leg through each loop, pull up and jobs done for mardi gras

    • great for stopping your crotch from spreading the covidses

  • +1

Wearing polyester and spandex fabric on your face is a bad idea. Not healthy.

    • -3

Being infected with COVID-19 is likely unhealthier, for others if not for you.

  • cheap quality.. i have got one for $4 from store near me.. thread comes off after one hand wash. i would not buy even at $1

  • +1

I don't like this mask it gives out a strange smell when you cover your face. Washed a few times the smells still there.

  • Polyester/spandex ? Not a fashion statement , masks should be made of cotton

  • +12

This shouldn't even have been allowed to be posted. I'm a director for a brand that did masks pre-pandemic and through research I know these literally let in more air than even the thinnest piece of cloth you can find. Honestly I don't even know what theyre for other than appearance

    • +1

Fine savers. I'd rather wear a life saver.

Posting the deal is fine: the real question is whether the product should be banned from sale.

  • +5

I bought one of theses the other day at chemist. There low quality. You can see through it.

  • +2

If I pull that off will you die?

  • +2

I feel like i would catch covid wearing this

  • +2

    these are barely 'dust masks'

there are better quality masks available for the current situation

  • Site popup says $10 of your first order if you sign up too there newsetter🤪👍
