Washing Machine Which Brand or Model? Front Loader

Machine needs replaced its last just over 7 yrs and moved t weo houses so cant complain.

There are so many low,mid and high end machines of many brand names.

So dont have much clue what is recommended or stay clear of.
Not sure if my budget maybe from $500 to $750 approx.

My last brand was Samsung not sure what made me get it as they are normally tv's and phones lol.
Probably at time was price and good reviews. I need to see what i paid back then as cant remember.

I had contact machine repair guys and right away they told me the problem both having said different things.

One said $450 lol on a 7yr old machine dont thnk so and other two said get new one.

One said get a lg as comes with 10yr warranty other says bosch and i questioned about lg said was ok.

Looking at a top 10 list i seen of recommend machines maybe based on reviews bosch was like 2nd and lg was way down the l list even lower than samsung if i remember.

I dont want a basic cheap one that in a few years needs replair or replaced, so probably mid range.

Also there has probably been loads of deals come and gone but i will need to grab one soon as cant do without a machine.

Just asking out there your thoughts yes not every model of same last as long as each other and im sure there are a few lemons along the way.

    • Thanks but have already asked on one of these, the other was asking about top loader im after front loader.

Hopefully others can share there experience and recommend..

You might want to include that you’re after a front loader in your original post.

  • That 10yr wty on the LG is only on the motor afaik?
I have had a LG top loader 8.5kg for over 10yrs and it has been faultless. Use it around 3 times a week.
For longevity i prefer the top loaders.
Dont place too much faith in those reviews.

I've had German made Bosch front load machines for my last 2,.so I would say whatever the cheapest German made Bosch machine…

First one still worked , and only required a motor brush change (which I diy'd thanks to YouTube videos), and lasted over 15 years before I sold it on gumtree to buy a new larger/fancier Bosch machine due to kids and an ozbargain deal post :)

    • But i believe these german ones are very pricey though

      • But last "twice" as long.
We have a near on 15 year old German made Bosch basic model. Family of five so given it is only a 6.5kg it runs at least 7 times a week (so it's done 5500 plus loads).
Replaced $10 motor brushes 4 years ago.
We might get a non German Bosch next time if savings are significant.
        .

        • We've just replaced our Thai made Bosch 6.5kg that lasted 15 years. Replaced it with a Samsung 7.5kg.

          • @BOGOF: Why go from Bosch to Samsung if you got such a long run of your Bosch, bosch seem to be rated high but the german ones are at a premium price. Which I don't fancy spending on. What Samsung did you go for and reasons for that model?

            • @bwatt72: Mrs BOGOF hated the Bosch. It was very noisy and didn't clean bulky items very well such as sheets. I kept it going as long as possible, replacing the door seal and brushes about 4-5 years ago, but it finally gave up the ghost. We chose the Samsung based on value and reviews. we got this model from AOL:- https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/samsung-ww75k54e…

The 7.5 kg was perfect for our house, as the 8.5kg is deeper and would be a problem in the laundry room. AOL gave us a free extended warranty due to a delivery stuff up. We've only had it a few weeks, but Mrs BOGOF says it is superior to the Bosch (albeit being 15 years old). It is extremely quiet.

              • @BOGOF: My Samsung which still works but is on its last legs I'm told by saying what's wrong is more likely the spider or something that holds drum etc has corroded and just to by new machine. Which makes sense after 7 yrs.
Looking at my model a few new reviews have said same issue, but I wonder if same issues still happen today or if they fixed it.
If I could get another to last 7 yrs I be happy.
Another poster said they got a Samsung bubble wash and had 6yrs and still going strong but when I look there is a mix of good and bad reviews more so from jb hifi.
Yes there will be some bad eggs and some good eggs when buying one an would be great to have ideal machine that just lasts, but if was there be a price to match I'm sure.
Looking at this one you got seems to be one up from the bubble wash, I just wonder how long ago it came out as not a great deal of places have it.

Yes a free extended warranty would make the deal more sweet I think I would grab myself if was same,

I was looking to try something different but maybe I should stick to maybe Samsung but if after 2 or 3 yrs it plays up be rather annoying but can happen to any machine I suppose. Not really into paying extended warranty on things as items should last.

Any these extended warranty the stores try to sell you that's where they make there money from ain't there places you could insure such item cheaper for 3 or 4.years for much less.

  • I've had a few higher end front loaders previously, the latest was a lower end Samsung.
Cannot fault the Samsung, going on 6 years without a hiccup.
    The same line this one;
    https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/samsung-ww75j54e…

    • Reviews go back two years on this model so bit dated and even one review from 2019 says they got it 4 yrs ago so why are they still selling a washing machine from 5 plus years ago?
Surely you get more bang for your buck with a newer machine.
Tempted as i am to get another samsung 7yrs 2 months is not too bad of a run, but its a hit or miss on machines some last years after and some have issues long before.
Even expensive ones can have there issues.

When a repair man on Facebook said get lg as its got 10yr warranty sounds good, but they are very low on list of best to worst machines and many say stay clear.
The other repair man says Bosch.

I know when dont buy machines for the looks but the bosch ones look ugly and cheap on what i see online, even my Samsung from 7 odd years back looks more modern.

      • +1

They don't do full updates on their machines often. At this price, you don't want a huge amount of newer sensors etc. which are likely to fail or have issues, you jsut want a decent machine that does what it suppose to do.
Let's be honest, not much has changed in the washing machine space in the lower end tier.
Also, I don't mind that they have been around for a while, as you know they last and any issues would have been refined etc.

  • I bought a Bosch 7.5KG Front loader machine and this thing is silent. I live in an apartment and it is very quiet and stable, used it for about 9 months now. It might be the top-end of your budget, but I think it would be one to seriously consider.

    • Was sort of leaning towards bosch but on ones i see online they look ugly and cheap looking but i was looking at $700 range.
The one you list would be double of what i fancy paying on any machine.

Obviously price if stuff go up over there years as does different models and sizes and features etc.
Looking back on my Samsung from 7 yrs 2 months ago that was $567 and its been a good machine. When i look at the reviews now its crap but im sure reviews back then was ok or price i liked not sure why i went for Samsung.
But a few reviews of recent say same issue as mine weird how after 7 yrs a few of these have same issues.
Then there is some unlucky people who only got 3 years or so out of it.
But $567 and just over 7 years is not too bad, yes be nice if lasted longer but its not.
But if i got another machine to last 7yrs plus in another i be happy.

      • Honestly I didn't even look at the price that Bosch's website shows - I paid around $550 or something on Black Friday sales last year, looking at various retailers they all seem to be around the high $700's (hence why I mentioned top-end of your budget). You'll find it for less than half their RRP easily.

The only other bit of experience I've had with washing machines was a Westinghouse 6KG top loader from about 8 years ago which in retrospect was always piece of junk, especially towards the end of it's life of 7 years it would constantly leak, spin violently and the agitator in the middle would wrap the clothes up (no matter how thoughtfully you loaded the machine) and cause you to untangle the machine 5+ times per load - really living up to its name!

That machine was replaced start of last 2019 with an LG 7.5KG Front-loader machine (I don't have the model sorry, it was my old man's) which started off fine, but progressively grew louder and shook more. Still, it was miles better than the Westinghouse it replaced, and my old man still uses it to this day without issue AFAIK.

From that experience, I knew I would never buy a top loader, and I wanted to try something different than the LG. Didn't want to spend a ton of money and the Bosch ended up being the one I went for, no regrets (so far).

    • Lol i seen price and moved on never noticed your link was bosch site which is rrp.
But im looking at this WAN24120AU currently on offer with gg.
It's bigger and would it not be a better machine? But strangely does not have as much reviews as your model.
Im curious if this 8kg is much bigger in size overall that puts people off? Sticks out front too much or wider etc.

Wonder what the differences are on yours compared to WAN24120AU

      • Yeah fair enough, I doubt there'd be much difference other than the size and capacity.
That one you linked also has a slightly higher RPM at 1200 (vs the one I have which is 1100).
I was conscious of the physical size, as this apartment has one of those crappy "euro" laundries in a cupboard basically, and this one just fit (the height was the constraint mainly).
If the size and price is okay, I'd say go for it and score the extra capacity and RPM.

        • Did you find cord was short as many complaim about this and have to use an extension cord to reach the socket. I suppose each house is built different.

          • @bwatt72: Yes actually I did - but I put that down to the bad laundry design and less the machine's fault.
My laundry is basically a bench, space below for the washing machine and space above for a dryer. There is no cable hole cutout in the bench, so the cord has to go from behind the washing machine, to the front of the bench and then back behind/under our dryer into the corner to plug in.
If there was a shred of thought put into this place, it would be just fine and no issues. (I could probably fix this issue by just drilling a hole, but this is a rental and I don't have a drill or bits for the granite bench)

  • I beleive samsung are aware of the spider corrosion and two different metals mixing and falling apart over time. Yes with a build up of soap etc etc does not help.

But on a vid i see samsung do this so people keep having to buy another, but they risk them moving to another brand.

It was mentioned that some companys have some sort of plate so the two metals dont mix and react. But im reading a lot of the other brands do this not just samsung.

Here was me sort of leaning towards a samsung again but this is a common fault it has and it seems other brands are more less same set up.

At this rate i never pick a machine, if some wow deal just appeared then i think i would just bite the bullit. But everything currently seems bit overpriced or has been much lower in past.

  • Some models i thought might be ok. But haier is very new and the thing is how long will it last?

    https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/haier-hwf75dw1-7…

But that bosch looks so basic and ugly and comes with very short power lead.

    https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/bosch-7-5kg-fron…

A Samsung which i had for past 7 plus years, probably same fate with corroded im told spider etc from info i give. But was looking at this but no stocks.

    https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/samsung-ww75k54e…

    I could add many more.

  • Is there much difference in these two models?
One is obviously 7.5kg and other 8kg but like in over size? Does 8kg come overall bigger sticks out more at front or wider say.
Are features same or does WAN24120AU have more than WAN22120AU?
Seems WAN22120AU has plenty reviews but no so much WAN24120AU is this due to 7.5kg being more common size.

My Samsung was 7.5kg and seemed ok for us but just curious if there is differences in sizes or features of both bosch above.
The WAN24120AU is priced at what WAN22120AU almost due to gg having a offer, they wan22 seems more popular and tons of reviews.

Still tempted on the samsung though having had one 7 yrs but seeing its got the spider arm corrosion issue does put me off, its like your buying something you know one day will fail but not sure when.

    https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/samsung-ww75k54e…

    • Bosch aren't immune to spider corrosion either.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3aydc2lcig

      • Are there any who sorted this issue as seems most are all same you would not think the be allowed to do such thing knowing what happens few years down the line

  • For those who buy bosch do you tend buy extended warranty regardless if germany or china made etc just curious.

  • Searched this forum on washing machine extended warranty and its not talked about that much.
I wonder what the % is on people buying extended warranty these days more so on a $1000 machine that is highly rated.
Obviously there are risks in not having but items of that cost or above should be covered longer even if one brand company thinks its the best.
My current fridge and washing machine never had any and lasted beyond any extended warranty but maybe i was lucky.
