Looking for a Relatively Cheap Yet Good Water Proof Camera

Hey guys,

I'm doing some water-based activities soon and I'm looking into snapping some shots while out doing them. Does anybody know of any good yet relatively cheap water proof cameras? Not too fussed about the resolution, as long as it's 1080p and provides me good quality photos and videos. Budget is probably $300 max.

  • GoPro?

    • Good option, only thing holding me back is how much their accessories cost.

      • Don't buy the accessories? ;)

      • I got a 3rd party backpack adapter off amazon. All you need really need.

  • +1

    Gumtree is your friend.

    • Yep I agree, Nikon, Fuji and Panasonic have all made waterproof cameras for a while. Should be easy to get one well under your budget.

  • Sony HDR-AS50 has been pretty cheap (sub $150) in some deal posts though not for a while https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/473087

Comes with waterproof housing though note that tends to muffle any sound when it’s on

If you want cheap and cheerful, but still name brand, could be an option

  • If you want a camera, then the olympus TG-4, 5 and 6 (will need to scour the second hand market). The single digit TG lines are better than the competitors (Fuji XP, Panasonic FT or Nikon W or the Olympus TG triple digit line) because of the f/2.0 lens at the wide end. However if cost is an issue then any of the other lines are decent provided they are more recent releases.

If you want an action camera, then any of the older GoPros would be my suggestion. Just buy third party accessories.
