Can anyone comment on the difference between Shell Ultra X and Castrol Edge? Both are marketed as the premium end and it'll be helpful to know if one has some advantage over the other.
Personal preference. Depends if you follow Ferrari or Renault.
both very similar…similar manufacturer ratings such as LL-01 for BMW

Is Shell Helix Ultra different to Ultra X?
shell is much much better than castrol from my experience. I used to use castrol, then switched to helix. After 2 oil change (10k interval), when looking into the engine oil filler, it looks so much cleaner. The car is also much smoother to drive and feels like it accelerates better.
$36 for a fully synthetic oil is definitely a bargain.
