  • Why would anyone hodl FIAT? The money printer is depreciating it every time they click ok.

I don't understand what makes people do this. It makes no sense to me.

Your house is more likely to burn down than the Commonwealth Bank, et al. going bust and the government refusing to pay out on guaranteed deposits. If the economy does indeed go to pieces to the point where currency is totally devalued, your physical cash will be just as worthless.

It sounds to me like the shadow economy plays more of a role in this than anything else.

Should be hoarding coins if you're worried about the house burning down. Much harder to steal as well.

      • Or hoard an absolute (profanity) of 5 cent coins, burn the house down to melt the coins down, and re-sell the raw metal at a 20% profit!

5c coins actually cost around 8c to produce, remember…

      • A bag of coins would make a good weapon too.

    • Some people like being the masters of their own fate, even if that means taking on greater liability.

I share the sentiment but I do not store cash or gold. I believe that if our financial institutions collapse, the value of our currency will tank with it or shortly after.

    • Fear. Same fear that Government and media are driving by putting huge focus on announcing new cases each day, rather than announcing other impacts like how many losing their jobs/hours each day, how many additional suicides, or even how many cases with mild symptoms or how many recoveries.

  • New graphics cards and consoles this year. I shan't have any to hoard.
