Great form factor and usb-c port charging

I bought one a while back too, ryzen 5 is quite good.

Only potential draw back is the screen, I find 300 nits is enough for indoor usage but may be difficult to see in bright ourdoor environments. Still better than the 250 nits on the ThinkPad gen2s though

Nothing over 300 at this price range. Mostly all are 250. Some less (220).

Wish the 15 inch version was available with more than 8GB of ram :(

The main problem with this laptop is lack of manually upgradeable RAM.

    • +1

Yeah that RAM is soldered on. You can order with 16gb but it's significantly more expensive and the lead time is 8 weeks! So look elsewhere if you need more RAM.

gd deal as well, intel processor

But the i5 10210u is an inferior processor to the R5. 4 cores vs 6 and 14nm vs 7nm. Performance and battery life will be better on the AMD.

  • $917 with unidays

Also $827.10 with unidays and the base 256GB model that you can upgrade the storage yourself

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/auunidays/laptops/ideapad/ideap…

    • e15 for $755 or ideapad 5 for $917 (via unidays)
e15 has 256G vs 512G (but expandable) - I need minimum of 512 for photos and videos, and what I understand e15 can use 2 drives so winning
e15 can expand memory of needed, which might be good as I sometimes run 1 (or 2) vm's for TAFE
not worried about physical size or screen size differences
ideapad has 802.11ax - again not concerned

dont want to wait 8 weeks, so these are the 2 that I am considering.

      some advice pls?
      thanks

      • I'd get E15. Better build quality and yeah, can upgrade the storage yourself.

E15 comes in single channel memory by default so keep that in mind too, to get dual channel you need to add another ram stick

    • Not bad also

    • I guess my question is essentially: considering similarish specs and price, which is a better laptop? E series, vs ideapad 5?

Just bought this a few days ago for $815 (through Student Beans and net of the 20% CR Lenovo cashback).

    • Was cash back allowed with student discount?

      • I had no problems with it. CR tracked it right away.

        • Oh I missed that , thought couldn't use with cash back.

    • Hey wisdomtooth! I've signed up to StudentBeans and also CashRewards (TBH currently after discount the lappy is around $887, so I'm happy with that price). I'm pretty new to CashRewards so how did you do it? Did you access the Lenovo Educational site through Student Beans and then at check-out use the CashRewards extension? Thank you :)

      • I did it on my phone (for the same reason I was buying a new lappy). So, yeah, I got it all ready in my cart at the SB Lenovo store, then clicked through the Lenovo link on the CR site—not the app!—so I could then, once clicking through, change the url to the SB store rather than the std one (and hence the reason to use the site, not the app, which is basically a browser without address bar).

Just got mine today, btw. Setting it up as we speak.

        • how do you change url of cr link to student beans one, just copy and paste whole link?

          • @Mkm: When you click through the CR link, it'll all the id's necessary for it to track the transaction as parameters. Don't change them, and just add austudentbeans to the url at the right place. Compare the std Lenovo url to the SB one to see where.

        • Thanks sm for your reply! And congrats on the getting the new laptop hehe, what timing! How's the lappy? :)

Just wanted some clarification: By changing the url did you mean you replaced the whole cashrewards URL after clicking on CR with the StudentBeans one? or did you just add "/austudentbeans/" into the cashrewards URL? Cheers

          • @blazeeeit: I added "/austudentbeans/" into the Lenovo url given by CR.

            • @wisdomtooth: Thanks so much! Sorry for double-asking haha, I didn't see your replies above to Mkm for some reason :/ Enjoy the laptop haha (the 57wH battery is insane!)

      • Hi blazeeit, did you manage it buy it through Student Beans? The price for the 512GB SSD model jumps from $974/- to $1,019/- if I go through the Education or Student Beans stores.

        • This is the answer I got from the online salesperson:
"The machine is on a good deal in the consumer store hence the price is slightly less in the consumer store. The price varies based on the demand of the machine."

    • Are you sure its 512GB version? Looks like its 256GB when I try SB.

Just a warning to potential buyers: this is a VA panel not IPS

    • Lenovo reps say it's IPS, spec sheet says it's IPS, my receipt says it's IPS. Where are you getting this VA info from?

      • I'm interested in this question too

        Says here
        https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/education/laptops/ideapad/ideap…

        "14" FHD (1920x1080) WVA 300nits Anti-glare"

        • the rep told me that they use WVA and IPS interchangeably. I ended up ordering one and it def says IPS on the receipt.

          • @gruffjaguar: Sounds good - so you ordered the one that said WVA on the website, but it said IPS on the receipt?

            • @Gazpacho: Yep receipt says:
              Display 14.0FHD IPS AG 3.0T 300N N

              • @gruffjaguar: Cheers mate

Just confirmed with the rep as well. Now all I have to do is find a deal better than $917 for 8GB/256GB combo through Education store (neither Student Beans or UNIDAYS deals work for me)
