Previous Owner Didn't Disconnect nbn Connection

Update:
So as suggestion by everyone here. I have talked again to AussieBroadband and cleared it out. They said just to pass them the copy of lease agreement and they will take care. So my router has been shipped and i hope everything goes well. Thanks 😊

Hi, I am going to move to a new apartment and was trying to signup to AussieBroadband as everyone reffered me to that as they are the best for NBN. The issue i am facing is that AussieBroadband are saying there is already a connection at the apartment and it needs to be disconnected before they can appy the new connection. I tried calling them and explaining the issue but they ask to contact the landlord or previous tenant to disconnect their service. I do have the lease agreement but I am not sure on how to get it sorted out. I was told before signing the agreement that the connection is already disconnected. Please guide me with the best solution for this and if anyone have experience regarding this. Also, i am not sure which provider the connection is with as AussieBroadband is telling me that they do not have access to the information of the connection. Thanks and stay safe.

this happened to me at my previous rental.

basically what the provider did was setup the new connection on a different port. so rather than plugging your modem into say port1, you would connect it to port 2 or another.

maybe try suggest this option to them, see how that goes.

never found out if the prior connection got disconnected, in the end it didnt matter. speeds were not effected.

    • Thank you for the reply, just to confirm did this happen to you while signing up with AussieBroadband? Also, is the port on their end you mean or the port where we connect DSL cable into our home?

The port is in our nbn device in our home

The multiple ports option only applies to FTTP. Contact your landlord.

I did this as well when changing nbn provider. Keep the old provider in port 1, add new provider in port 2, then cancelled the old provider.

why dont you contact the property manager and tell them to contact the previous tenant?

You have an issue with free internet?

Why not just use it until it runs out?

      This!!

    • It’s not even working lol.

Don’t worry. The previous tenants will disconnect when they receive their first bill after moving out.

    This is an AussieBroadband fail.
They should just ask for a Proof of Occupancy Document (copy of lease including start date) and take care of it from there.
Hassle them again and tell them to follow the proper "Connect Outstanding" procedure instead of fobbing you off.

I'm not tech savvy (i.e. don't know if you can force a disconnection) but when I moved out of my house, I had to pay an extra month since TPG didn't allow me to cancel right away (they needed one month notice). So the previous owner may have scheduled it to be disconnected but the supplier still has connection until the formal expiry date. Don't know if this is the case but you can probably request a "forced" disconnection.
