$10 Stockade Splicer XPA Can 375ml (6 Pack) @ First Choice Liquor

800

Considering this beer rates 3.61 on Untappd, $40 for a case seems like incredible value.

This full flavoured beer was brewed using a perfect blend of Vic Secret, Ella and dry hopped Centennial. True to form, we couldn’t just settle for a straight up XPA, so we added grapefruit to the mix, creating a smashable thirst-quencher.

They spliced the best of an XPA with grapefruit undertones allowing the zesty flavours to show through every sip. Hop Splicer presents subtle hop flavours & a slightly bitter-sweet citrus hit. This XPA has the addition of grapefruit making it a truly refreshing, easy-drinking beer.

    Carton for $40 :)

Thanks OP! Always keen to try a new Ale especially for that price :D effectively ~$36 after cashback for a carton…

  • Thanks OP - at $36, happy to give this a go!

  • Good session beer although I think these are getting close to best before, if not already past it

    • +1

Not sure if that's the case (pun intended). Two cartons I purchased have BB dates of 06/21

      • Interesting, I got a 6 pack a month ago that was a few weeks from best before. Would just depend on the store I guess.

        • Just picked up my XPAs. BB is early August 2021, so I suspect they are quite fresh.

Beauty. Bought this for $16 the other day and really enjoyed it. Flavours are a bit intense for a session beer but nice for an opener.

  • I got one last night, its pretty good quality beer at $10 for 6.

Great thanks! They have a great brewery in Marrickville

    • +2

They do. It's all brewed out of Goulburn now as part of a larger collaboration. Means we can get the beer cheaper which is good!

    • I've had this beer (and all of their other ones) on tap at their Marrickville brewery. I didn't know they were brewing all of their beers out of Goulburn now. They have barrels for barrel-aging in their Marrickville brewery. Worth a visit (and taste).

  • Thanks. Grabbed a couple of 6 packs. No stock at Burwood, VIC but stock at Ringwood, VIC.

  • Got a couple of 6 packs from Flemington, VIC - to give it a go. Thanks for the tip OP and hopefully the praises in this thread are true!

  • Thanks OP, just bought a case. I hope it tastes good!

  • Cheers OP. Grabbed a slab to try

  • Thought the beers were average, but good how is the burger inside their brewery in Marrickville!!! One of the best burgers I've had.

All the stockade seems to be on special. Grabbed a $16 4 pack of Mr Fruju - $24 at beer cartel https://www.beercartel.com.au/stockade-mr-fruju-neipa/

  • Thanks OP. Maximum in cart = 10 :)

  • This is incredible zesty beer!!! Highly recommend

Considering you get 2000 flybuy points ($10) if you spend $100 and $10.50 ShopBack, maybe better off getting x10 if best before is not an issue!

  • +1

Got cashback and added 2000 flybuys points.

Tbh, stockade used to make great beer. They seem to have went pretty average since their last rebranding imo.

  • Picked up a slab (click and collect) from First Choice, Unley in SA on the way home from work tonight. Best Before date is May 21.
I've never tried it before but looking forward to giving it a crack!

Untappd 3.6 = shit beer and this beer definitely is. I rarely buy anything with less than 3.9-4 on Untappd.
Stockade only do two decent beers - Old Money and The Mountie. The rest is average at best, especially the XPA and 'Refreshing Ale'.
    Don't waste your money.

    • I would agree. The original 8 and 16 bit was great. But I went into their brewery pre covid and they had the Mountie on. F me, it was below par. Definitely not what it was. Same for my last tasting of old money. The first few releases of both beers were amazing. But not so much now.

Batch seem to be going the same way with their tap list at the main brewery. There’s only sauce keeping it real down there.

I'll crack a 2017 Old Money tomorrow, will see how it goes. The 2018 and 2019 were fine. The Mountie in a can was really good btw. Haven't had Batch for ages, in 2017 their beers tasted OK to me. Sauce went downhill, the IPA with the Canadian was total rubbish. Went down the drain.

    • Had the 2017 Old Money on tap yesterday and it was lovely tbh.

Got an out of stock in NSW message

    • Did you try changing stores? I had a similar message for Vic but was able to order from a different store.

  • Thanks OP. Picked up a slab after work. For the price I'm impressed. Seems similar to other craft beers that go for a lot more.

  • How do I activate 10.5% cashback on shopback? For me it says up to 3%…

    • +1

Think you missed it buddy. I think yesterday was the cashback increase.

  • Ah, okay then ^^ Damn that newsletter advising outdated deals :p

That rating would be for the old recipe and that probably warranted a much higher rating. Stockade have dumbed down all their beers. Hop Splicer is pretty ordinary these days. Though $10 is hard to beat.

Can report back, pretty good. Crisp, bitter like an xpa and can taste the grapefruit nicely. Best before 5/8/21. Glad I bought 10x 6 packs.

  • Damn just noticed it's expired, picked up 1x 6 pack Friday and was planning to buy another 10 today.
