How many MJ do you use per day?

In the same vein as the other thread, what is your average monthly gas bill and consumption (for those of you that use gas heating)?

For the period 20/07/20-16/08/20 it was $80.82 and we used on average 107.28MJ per day (we're a couple living in a 2BR unit in Melbourne, with gas stove, ducted heating and a continuous instant hot water system)

Can’t wait for the next thread… “How many BTU does your bathroom heat lamps produce?” Or “How many CFM does your range hood suck?”

  • It gets cold in the blue mountains where I live.
We had a big house with gas central heating where the gas hit $1000+ a quarter in winter.
We now have moved, run the thermostat at 18 and have better insulation, but the winter bill gets up near there.
Next house will have better insulation still, and more solar panels and reverse AC for heating.
Summer bill for hot water and stove is under $200 a quarter. We have six people living here.

    • We're about to build up there 😁

      This was not a thriller

  • I wouldn’t know, the gas is unmetered in our building - are we really saving more than $20/week? Sweet

Last bill (7 July) was 521.15 per day

  • 123.7 winter 3 persons in 5bed house gas stove and cooking and fireplace(occasionally used) Mostly inverter heating Sydney

  • 7.9 MJ/day for May - Aug. Instant gas hot water and stove. Bill was $21/month. Same time last year it was 3.39 MJ/day. Taking longer showers this winter as the weather has been colder.

  • 7.3mj/day.
    My GFs place is 14mj/day.

In both cases it's just the instantaneous HWS and stove top. She cooks more than me and showers twice daily.

  • Average usage cost per day (GST incl) $ 7.80
Average usage per day 405.571 MJ

this is the highest our gas bill has ever been

  • No idea on MJ or how much per day, but our bill is like $50/qtr in summer and $180 in winter.

  • 305 MJ for last month. Ducted heating, cooktop and hot water. 4 BR house. Heating is running almost 14hours a day though due to WFH. ( $330 total bill for 57 days usage)

  • Either the people here are cheapskates or there's a fault in one of my appliances.

My daily average Mj usage in winter: 1,000 (yup, you read right)
It rarely goes below 500 Mj/day.

Single person household with my partner staying over half the week.
Gas ducted heating, instant hot water, gas cook top.
Ducted heating is set at 21 degrees during the day and turned down to 18 for sleeping.

    • Sounds about right. The higher the thermostat is set the higher the usage. We’ve done 1000Mj/day these last 2 cold days in Melbourne.
