Parking Fine for Parking near a Building in Sydney CBD

Hi Everyone,

Today got fined $273 for parking my motorbike near a building . I know that parking in Payment is illegal but there are motorbikes are always parked around this building, this building is in Bend Street opposite to Winter Garden Plaza. I saw that only my motorbike had a ticket and no other bike had a ticket on them.

Bit confused why I was only ticketed here? Do I have a chance if I asked for a review being I am new motorcycle drive and stuff?

Photo reference

I parked exactly where the white scooter is.

People that get away with shoplifting doesn't magically make it okay. You can try appealing but if they have sufficient photo evidence then unlikely to succeed.

Maybe the others have permits? Or they paid the ranger off?

I think whats's happening here is the edge of the block of land that building sits on is a straight line but the building juts out a bunch of places. Meaning that most of the bikes parked in alcoves that are technically private property but the OP is too far out and is parked on the footpath which is illegal in Sydney.

    • This.

Havent fone one for awhile. But particilar buildings in Sydney have the border extending past the actual building and people have cottoned onto the locations.

    • Yes, I usually park very close to the building. Seems someone moved my motorbike so my bike was a bit on the footpath.
Looks like I need to pay the fine .. My second of riding the motorbike. Thank you for your explanation

Mate, can you write in manner that is comprehensible please?

    • Just behind the sign to be exact.

    • Signage only applies to the roadway.

  • You should have done a Google maps and pixelated the faces of those guys in the niches.

I ride motorcycle myself everyday and never understood why would someone park on a footpath when it illegal in NSW. I would fine everyone because you need to ride on a footpath to get to that spot even if it's considered private property.

You have parked in the footpath which is illegal. With motorbikes, rangers normally post the tickets in mail, but with your particular bike they probably found it easier/secure to just stick the ticket somewhere on the bike itself.

Parking the things on a footpath is outright dangerous and you got what you deserved

You could question them why the other bikes didn't appear to be fined but that won't get you out of it. "Everyone else did it" would not cut the mustard with your Mum when you were a teenager and won't cut it with the law either.

I've had my motorbike licence for 39 years and motorbikes on the footpath are downright annoying and unnecessary. If you aren't willing to pay for parking then catch PT with the rest of us plebs.

    Thank you all.
I have submitted a review asking them for leniency on the fine. I will just have to wait for the revenue dept's decision.

Lesson learned in a very expensive way. BTW, this was my second day of riding to the city on my motorbike after I purchased the motorbike 2 weeks ago. I usually take the train but due to COVID 19 made a decision to use the motorbike but this did not work that well.

Check the rego on the fine, it might not be yours. (if you are lucky)

    • That was the first thing I did by checking the Rego .. It is mine :(

      • People do shit all the time in the CBD. Like the person drags the bike on the end of the restriction into the illegal area and puts their bike in it's place. They swap tickets around so if the officer is lazy and they don't check the rego. they see they already have a ticket and move on.
