  • Shit brand that makes really shitty products.

I could be wrong, and this might be okay. But I would strongly suggest looking into reviews first, I've had nothing but duds from this brand whenever I've bought anything from them, cheap tablets, DVD players, even headphones, anything their name touches, not surprising that everything I've bought of their's has been bought on clearance. All rubbish.

    • This must be going back 15 years but I had one of their DVD players and it was fine. Region free and cost <$30, gave it to a friend to take to their holiday property.

    • We've had one of their dashcams for well over three years now, it's never missed a beat. It's a NAVC-617GPS, cost about $70 at Umart. Feature wise similar to this one, without the rear facing camera.
By contrast, we've had a number of "name brand" ones which barely made it out of warranty before completely dying.

  • I don't understand why you would pay extra for GPS built into a dash camera.

      Speedo stamped in the video
      Automatic time sync
      Location stamped in the video

All very very important things when you need evidence. If you don't have GPS, why even bother?

      • Because video evidence proves all those things anyway.

Speed stamping from a cheap dashcam that isn't regularly calibrated wouldn't be regarded as solid evidence in court.
Speed is easily calculated from the video alone anyway.

        • It gets it's speed data from the GPS signal. How do you calibrate a GPS?
If it was out it would only be point something of not much…

          • @Cheeper: It's more to do with taking the evidence to court & challenging a police radar which is calibrated and tested on a regular basis for accuracy (read the link).

My point is the video provides this evidence anyway. You can work out your speed by calculating time & distance covered.

I'd hate to have an incorrect time on my video if I was involved in an incident. I can rest assured it's always correct with GPS. A dashcam isn't something you expect to be buying often, so anything to make life easier in the long run is damn worth it in my opinion.

I'd hate to have an incorrect time on my video if I was involved in an incident.

Why, what would it matter? The judge isn't going to care if it's wrong. It's not as though they take that information as reliable anyway.

I don't have any time stamp on my dash cam. It's a pointless feature.

            • @Arthur Dunger: At best, it'll be the difference between guilty and innocent. At worst, it'll give your opposition one less vulnerability to attempt to exploit.

When it's something as serious as your freedom, or a great deal of money on the line, an extra hundred or so dollars to make your case any bit easier to work on is well worth it.

              • @bbqandbargains: Are we still talking about car accidents now or something else? Not many people lose their freedom over a car accident.

@Arthur Dunger: I'm talking about evidence in general.

Not many people lose their freedom over a car accident.

Is this a troll? Ever heard of culpable driving?

                  • +1

@bbqandbargains: Not a troll at all. Look back at my past comments & deal posts. I'm far from a troll.

I think you're getting so far from the point now. Don't forget I still have high quality video evidence as I put the money towards that instead of one with GPS built in.

                    • @Arthur Dunger: That's good, then did I misunderstand your point about being jailed for a car accident not being common?

What model do you have? I didn't think it was a trade-off between high quality video and GPS built-in.
