Have you opened a new one, is it a different drive?

        • Did you?

@chutibuti: nope, but the commentor is saying the above is incorrect

@asa79: I am not relying one someone else comment … but ,,,I got 4 drives from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/537049 few months back all of them were WDBWLG0080HBK-NESN

              • @chutibuti: is that a white or red equivalent for the WD?

                • @furythree: That's the model number for the 8TB Elements external HDD in North America.
The drive inside should either be WD80EZAZ or WD80EMAZ. The R/N # and power rating of those drives are the same as a HC510. From that people think the drive inside the 8TB Elements are white label HC510s.

                • @furythree: all of them WD80EMAZ with white label..

                  • @chutibuti: the ultrastars are Hitachi equivalent to enterprise drives right? albeit slower speeds

              • @chutibuti: But not like a RED drive?

Cheers, will grab one to finally run a hot spare in my xpenology nas.

  • Ugh so confused with the whole SMR thing

Would like to get a new NAS & pop some of these in but not sure if NAS worthy!

  • Serious question, what is everyone using so much storage for? I mean all the deals for 4, 8, 10+ TB of storage?? Terabytes!! What am I missing?

    • 4K Movies are around 50GB to 120GB each so around 10 to 20 movies takes up 1TB of space.
Also TV shows are the worst. For example Lost complete season is about 1TB+

I only use my hard drive for linux isos tho.

        I respect your honesty. 😁

      • This never gets old. Still brings a smile to my face

    • Photographs and video of baby using full-frame camera. That chews up a lot of storage.

This is not a bad price, probably the gateway price I'd purchase 8TB, and unfortunately these drives have been too expensive for too many months now. I was planning on buying a few more 8TBs but the WD 12TB external drive recently dropped to $305 and so I went with these instead (as better value per terabyte).

The 8TBs really ought to drop below $200 - they've been around for a while now at this price point and now the 12TB drives are proving better value.

Yeah ikr, 8TB used to be cheap i remember buying them a couple of years ago every couple of months for $200 under each. now the 12TB seems better value

  • Back in stock for $207.50.

  • Anyone got the order shipped yet?
