I would have thought the RTX2070 had infinitely better performance than the "previous gen RTX cards".

I'd imagine they're referring to the fact the 2070 Super is '25%' faster then the original 2070

doh, of course. can't downvote my own comment but really surprised no one else has

    That card is so adorable.

    this one or the 5700XT?

      Rtx 3070

      5700xt has done me well.

I have the 5700xt and the performance is very good…when it works.

Drivers and software support are still pretty spotty on AMD's gpus in my experience. I have found a firmware that runs okay and I'm not updating it, since every time I updated it would fix an old glitch and introduce a new glitch somewhere else. AMD's game capture and tuning software is still pretty garbage too.

I'm waiting for Ampere to switch back to Nvidia - IMO they're worth the small price premium

      • RX5700XT was the test GPU for the consoles to iron out the bugs. RDNA2 is where it's at.

        • are you a time traveller?

Thanks. Added that to the post

  • What’s the cooling like on a mini version of the 2070S? Adequate? Lots of noise to compensate?

    • +1

Should be quite loud, like a zotac mini if not worse

      • I'm sure I can search online, but I'm rushing to buy a quiet ITX build I can OC. I will use Noctua D15 ($US99+del @ Amazon US) and Fractal Design Node 304 ($140 delivered @ Kogan) so this may be the noisiest component.

How hard to mod one of these with say a 120mm liquid cooler, or do I have to pony up for a Strix to get noise down?

        • I recommend just buying a regular length gpu since the Node 304 can fit it if you make sure the psu cables isn’t facing the gpu. Cooling this thing to reduce noise can be quite expensive and it would prevent you from watercooling your cpu since you only have 1x 120mm space for radiator support in that case. It would not be hard to do it but it will definitely void the warranty.

You might want to take a look at the Coolermaster NR200 which also supports full length gpus and has better fan & radiator support. It has a similar volume compared to the 304 and is quite popular.

          • @Yve: Good call. Thanks. Will check it out.

NEW NVIDIA AMPERE 30XXX SERIES IS LITERALLY BEING ANNOUNCED ON TUESDAY NEXT WEEK. TERRIBLE time to buy this right now as prices will plummet in the coming weeks.

@OP I appreciate you posting the deal - congrats on first post! However, the mini version typically has worse cooling, and this is also a very bad time to buy. I second this as not being a good bargain.

      • +3

Worse cooling because its a Mini card designed for small form-factor cases.

The mini for $699 might actually be a good buy right now since there most likely won't be mini versions of the new 3070/80/90 cards on release. And if there is, a 3070 mini would cost $999 on release.

        • Wow, ok… some people have some pretty strong reactions to what I posted. I really do understand what mini cards are for. I would have assumed someone building ITX would be an enthusiast who would already have considered the parts of their build to the last small detail… but for the average Joe I don't think this is as good a deal as it might first appear.

Are you saying you don't think the prices on this will drop after announcement of the cards next week?

          • @pinchies: Which card in this form factor is a better deal?

Not if the Ampere cards are hella expensive.

You've been negged because the reasons you cite don't really justify a neg.

@ that guy who argued his $800 2060 was in any way reasonable :p

But didn't you hear, it was a Asus Strix OC model!

  • i read (usd), $700 for 3070 and $1200 for 3080 but its only like 25% faster. If i can beat the Australia tax, I may srs consider buying a 3070 on launch..

    • $499 USD for 3070 far better launch October

    • $699 USD for 3080
$499 USD for 3070 which will beat 2080TI

      So ……
