Why Is The Nikon Z5 So Pricey in Australia Compared to The States?

Hey guys,

I'm expecting the usual answer re exchange rate etc but I was wondering if there is anything further to this situation because I'm not just comparing it to the states but also the Nikon Z6's available locally. In the states the difference between the Z5 and Z6 is around U$400 whereas over here the difference is a mere A$300.

Model Digidirect (AU) Teds (AU) B&H (US) Adorama (US)
Nikon Z5 $2449 $2449 $1898 $1898
Nikon Z6 $2798 $2799 $2442 $2442
Difference (A$) 349 300 544 544

Alternative question - why is the Nikon Z6 so cheap in Australia compared to the States?

Retailers are probably given a high price from the distributor for some reason. Likely supply.

    • Probably, companies if they do their job makes people pay what they can afford.

The States also have the power of population. There is more buying power for the consumer. Just look at new cars. Mind you our taxes on cars are over the top on luxury ones.

I believe there is an additional sales tax on top of the published price? I went to B&H New York years ago to buy something and got given a bit of a surprise.
