Any one own one want to comments on the quality?

    • Was going to ask that. I've read a few reviews online, seems to be positive but not sure about life of the chair. Which is what kills it for me.

    • Decent, not great. $200 worthy

I got the thunderx3 EC1 for about a year now. The foam cushions don’t last too long while not uncomfortable to sit on, they have mostly gone flat. The leather has also started cracking on the arm rests. Not very high quality.
The back also doesn’t recline and instead the whole seat tilts. For about $100, it’s acceptable. I wouldn’t pay RRP $180 for it.
I realise the OP’s model is different but I don’t expect a great improvement in quality from this brand

Had the same issue after a year of use. My gas lift doesn't work anymore and if you lean too far forward the chair will slide out and topple over you. The engineering of the design is bad and unbalanced.

    • I have one and the leather is peeling/cracking after 12 months and recently the back snapped off.
I removed the leather to have a look and the welding is very weak.

$44 for delivery to SA kills it for me

  • How does this compare with the BlitzWolf one and the Cascade Mesh? Need a good chair for homeoffice.

  • these ones are similar to the onex ones you can get at costco. pretty flimsy and not sturdy.

i've got this one and im happy with it. https://www.ak-racing.com.au/gaming-chairs/wolf-series/akrac…

Have one almost the same - cushioned seats become incredibly uncomfortable very quickly (~1 year). If you're a big arm-rest person, those will also wear out quite quickly. I still use it as a spare in the other room - it's very rickety compared to my new one.

For this price, you're much better off getting a decent office chair - these can be found in the $250 range, but they're a lot better.

Looking for a decent gaming chair for my son. Willing to pay little more

    • -1

Herman miller if you have alot more of a budget.. Gaming chairs are more of a gimick then anything. Especially if used for extended periods.

      • Well what you expect from young people these days :). They always after look

        EDIT: Reviews look blah https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/thunderx3-tgc12

      • dont agree with this at all. i am currently working from home, and sit in my chair for long periods of time throughout the day. the chair actually proves good comfort especially for my lower back.

I dont have a leather gaming chair, for the pure reason that it would crack and peel.

Always find it amusing for anyone to recommend Herman Miller when someone is discussing about cheap racing chairs… Not everyone has that Herman Miller kind of budget… 2nd hand/factory refurbished ones had been rare to find as well lately…

Perhaps recommend an Ergohuman along the way but even that is still 3x the price of this chair…

        • +5

          Totally agree.
I was looking at the secret lab Titan, and a lot of people keep saying "just get a HM Aeron".

          For context and reference:
          Secret lab titan 599
HM Aeron new 1800+ for the BASE model

I've read and watched a lot of reviews. HM Aeron has all good reviews, but damn the price. And I don't doubt it is amazing. I don't have that money, and if I did I would drop it on a new rig before the chair.

I get that everyone says "get a 2nd hand refurbished". The problem is:
          1. 2nd hand still $800 to $1000 on gumtree
          2. All the refurbished office equipment stores are sold out EVERYWHERE these days.

The titan has generally good reviews.
          1. The 2020 range has improved the PU leather. No recorded complaints with the new type.
          2. The fabric seems more durable.
          3. The seat cushion IS HARD, but apparently people say it is preference and takes getting used to, but after a week supposedly it is not noticeable
          4. The lumbar is NOT adjustable up or down. Only in or out. (The omega gets a separate cushion which you can move but it's obviously just a pillow).

Note that I've typed all the above, but still haven't gotten a new chair yet. My back is killing me from my $120 Catch of the day el cheapo "gaming" gimmick chair.

Weird, I wanted to say 2 or 3 lines, but ended up typing this whole thing.

It's just frustrating when everyone essentially says the same thing "don't bother, get a HM", when frankly the $1800++ price tag simply isn't available to MOST people.

What other REAL, equivalent price options are there…

          Rant over.

EDIT I didn't mean to hijack this post, I didn't mention OPs post at all… I have no experience with the thunderx3…

        • Every time someone brings it up all I can think of is this scene from the simpsons
          https://imgur.com/4ypt7ed

      • Herman Miller…what's the price range for them? More than 1K right?

I've seen similiar chair that looks like HM but cheaper, not sure if there's any "fake" or "rebadged" chairs in the market?

        • There's generally fakes for everything - but you should watch some videos regarding tips when buying second-hand HM:

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-aeDaHIEbY

There's some telltale signs that you're not getting a good bargain (e.g. design change means that the chair quite old, fraying at edges)

    • I would swear by a SecretLab chair, but they are expensive. Worth it though, especially if you work from home now (Tax deduction - home office expense) and need to sit for extended periods of time.

I recommend the softweave fabric version of the Titan.

      • i am looking fora new chair too as i realised the current office chair i have isn't suitable for me and i have zero lumbar/lower back support.
I was looking at the Omega (recommended for my height) and so far people on Youtube are vouching for the 2020 PU leather versions as it is much more durable and easy to maintain.

        Sadly it's $600+

      • How long have you had the softweave?

It looks more comfortable than the PU leather to me but I'm curious how well it lasts

        • My Titan in Cookies and Cream Softweave is 2 years in and still beautiful to sit in.

I'd happily buy another one if this wore out or if I needed another.

I still have a refer code that should give you $25 off if you want it. It is from a few years back but may still work. I'll PM it to you

    • Could go and try the IKEA Markus and Jarvjallet

      • Even the IKEA Markus and Jarvjallet are sold out pretty quickly these days but you can always order online.

Trying them out is not really an option for Victorians at the moment though due to the 5km radius restrictions.

  • There are a lot of positive reviews for this chair, but the majority of poor reviews seem to come from people who have had this for 10 months or more. Seems it's not a good long term proposition.

    • +1

You don't really get what you pay for - other than flashy 'gamer' design gimmicks, there's much better options when you expand your horizon to office chairs.

      • +1

For about the exact same price $200 do you have any alternative? Decent or better?

  • I purchased this back in March as i have been working from home. Have found it very comfy and no major issues so far.

The only one would be the lower back support cushion has gone down a bit.

  • +1

Like @rosst, I purchased this in March. I'm 6'1 and the neck support is a little low, the seat is little on the firm side but everything else is good.

  • +1

Had one of these, have now passed it on to my son.

As others have said the pleather cracks and starts flaking off after some time, though this isn't limited to this chair, it's a characteristic of these style pleather chairs in general. The arm rests also deteriorated pretty quickly, some of the sewing work wasn't great and the gas lift would randomly go down in small increments.

I've since bought a fabric AK racing chair and found the build quality is much better and that fabric is far more comfortable and breaths better. Can't speak for longevity yet.

  • As the other comments say, ThunderX3 chairs aren't for long term use.
I had a similar chair for about a year and a bit. It was my go to chair on the weekends while I was playing games.
I've started using it more often since I've been working from home and that's where all the issues began.

    • The bolts need to be readjusted every now and then to ensure the arms and back aren't too loose
    • I've had to buy an extra cushion to sit on as the seat padding had flattened
    • No lumbar support so had to buy an extra lumbar cushion.
    • Cracking on arms and seat
    • Chair base cracked and wheel is loose (had to duct tape it back on but it no longer rotates like the other wheels).

For the price I paid, it's expected. If I could go back and buy a better quality chair, I would.
