Putting Austria on a Package Instead of Australia

This is probably the wrong category but not sure what the right one would be. Someone in the US sent me a package and I just noticed the tracking says it is going to Austria :(

How likely to do you think it is someone will realise the mistake and reroute it here? Or will it just rot in a post office in Vienna forever and ever? :(

I've done this before. I wanted a free offer that was for Europeans only and Australia wasn't an option. But Austria was, so I put Austria and also crammed the full Australian address in the address field. I think it did go to Austria, but then it made its way to me. How valuable was the item you ordered, would it be worth migrating and resettling in Austria near the post office it's going to?

    • Hey, um your rabbit is smoking a lit bong!

It's medicinal herbs, prescribed by a vet.

        • Haha πŸ‘

        • Where'd it go???

    • Oh that's good to hear!! Valuable but probably not worth resettling in Austria lol. The sender is sending me a collector's item that's only available in the US and I'm sending a similar collectors item that's only available in Australia.

The package has gone only you and I
    It means nothing to me
    This means nothing to me
    Oh, Vienna

What service of shipping did you use ?

But as long as it doesn't get damaged along the way it be sent to Australia.

Happens quite often with parcels coming from France for some reason. But would routinely receive 6 EMS articles for austria from France daily

    This happened to us also.
Problem is that when the Post Office clerk accepts the package they input to the electronic package record system the country code for Austria rather than Australia.
Given the package sorting systems are electronically controlled the package will be sent to Austria. They will receive the package and a human will see the package is addressed to Australia and put it back into the mail bag for USA. The USA will receive the package, the electronic sorting system assumes it has been incorrectly sent to them and it goes back to Austria.
In our case it made the return trip 5 times.
Only way to short-circuit the process is to get the send to contact USPS and have them change the electronic coding of the pcakage

    "Oh Americans"

  • LOL. It’s such an unfortunate thing to happen, but yet it coulda happened to any of us! Did u put Australia when you ordered it?

    • Yep and apparently the sender verbally said Australia but it was the usps worker that put the wrong thing in the computer when generating the label. The senders going to call them so hopefully it can get fixed before it leaves the country 🀞

  • Austria!… g'day mate, put another shrimp on the barby!….

Just to update everyone - the items went straight from Austria to Australia, they didn't get bounced back and forth between the USA and Austria thank goodness. And arrived unharmed about a week ago. πŸ˜πŸ˜…

  • We had one go from Australia to Indonesia, even though we wrote India on it.

Data entry error by the courier staff, add in Xmas shutdown /rush etc.. In the end it came back to us in Sydney and we sent it again to India
