Thread notifications, but I'm not subscribed

Hi, I'm dumb and cannot figure out why I am getting notifications for new comments in this post - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/265665

  • I've looked under "My Account-> Subscriptions-> Threads" and it says I'm not subscribed to any threads
  • I've tried hitting subscribe, waiting an hour, then hitting unsubscribe, but still got notifications the next day
  • The bookmark button is greyed out (in case that makes a difference)
  • I've made a single post in that thread at the root level but do not have any direct replies - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/265665?page=4#comment-6008…

    Did you change subscribe to “none”? Or just “click subscribe”?

    Auto-subscribe
    For the threads that I create or comment on, I want to be automatically notified of:

    • every new comment
    • new replies to my comments and top-level comments if I am the original poster
    • no notifications

      This is set to "no notifications" but regardless I'm not the original poster nor do I have any replies to my top-level post.

      From the same page;
      -Thread notification frequency is set to "Send at most one notification between my viewings of the thread" and yet I still get constant notifications even if I haven't opened that thread page up for weeks or months at a time.
      -Notifications has neither "Email" or "Web" checked, but I still get them.

    If you subscribe to this thread (right hand side above comments), does it show up in your My Account > Subscriptions?

      Yes, if I subscribe to this thread (using either new comments or new replies) it does show up in My Account->Subscriptions. If I then unsub (set to none) it disappears from Subscriptions when I refresh the page.

      I will give TWAM a shot, thanks for the suggestion.

    It sounds like you are may be talking about the bottom of the daily morning newsletter under "Comments And Replies" and not comment notifications either via the bell menu or via an individual email. Is this correct?

      Yes, that is correct.

      There are no settings that appear relevant under My Account->Subscriptions->Newsletter so I have assumed it is picking up details from the other areas that mention notifications.

        Those are 2 different things.

        Notifications are received via

        • individual emails of new comments or replies to comments
        • notifications via bell of new comments or replies to comments

        The newsletter is a snapshot of what's happened in the site over the past 24 hours. The "Comments and Replies" section that are at the bottom of the newsletter just show new comments & replies to any forum, comment or deal posts you have made. Purely a snapshot, just as hot discussion topics. Not a subscription and not something that can be removed.

        We've rolled out a new update:

        • Only include subscribed nodes in 'Comments and Replies' section

        So you shouldn't see anything in your daily newsletter under comments and replies if you've unsubscribed to deals/forums etc.

        We've also added more customization:

        • User option to exclude highlighted section
        • User option to exclude forums
        • User option to exclude competitions

    well its amusing to note that in the racist hate threads my notifications are invariably turned off to allow 77th type responders to have their propaganda lie there unchallenged ….

        Responses made to how many other 'off topic' comments made in that thread exactly?

        You do know 'off topic' hate/ propaganda comments can be moderated on this companies website don't you?
