(Solved) Apple AirPods 2 New in Box Paired to Other iPhone

Hi Team,
I recently ordered a pair of airpods for my wife from Kogan and when she went to connect them, they were already named to “Dad’s iphone”
Is this how they come new in the box? or have I been sold a used/returned product?

Her phone is not named that nor is mine.

I am an android user and know bugger all about Apple stuff.

Should I return or is it how they come?

Update, Kogan support have not been to bad with it, although they are calling it a warranty…. Already have the return shipping label and just boxed them up to getting my money back.
Normally would not be to fussed as the looked undamaged but as this is something you stick in your ear probs better they sell that kind of stuff a used/demo.

Thanks for actually giving us an update!

Kogan support have not been to bad with it, although they are calling it a warranty….

"Warranty" my butt. They're knowingly selling used/repackaged stuff and calling it "Brand New".
And of course, they don't seem to be "too bad with it" - for every one person that pulls them up for it, they probably get away with ten others.

    • great to hear but you should have reported them to ACCC, that's obviously false advertising.

    • Also, did the box come in Apple's unique shrink-wrapped packaging? They have an unwrap tab.

If no, then there is your answer. You have been sold an used product.

Pretty sure you have to rename them manually, sounds like you got a used pair.

    • I thought they get a name based on the first device they're paired to.

What did Kogan say when you contacted them?

    • +24

"Please contact our support team at www.ozbargain.com.au"

Support Team at OzBargain this is wendy how may I help you ?

          Hi Wendy,
I recently purchased a pair of AirPods for my dad that I would like to return.
Can I please send these back?

Your call is important to us…

    • No idea why that got downvoted. I'd also be interested in what the response was.

Got mine from Apple and I definitely don't recall them having a name, it certainly sounds like they've been paired with something before.

Did the charging case come in that thin white slevee?
Also, have you checked the serials on the box and on the paired device?

        No white sleeve

      "Ask your father!"

Kogan’s way of doing a Father’s Day joke.

On a serious note, they are used or returned stock.

  • Kogan have probably just resealed a pair of returned earphones.

    • I know literally nothing about consumer rights… Are they even remotely entitled to do that without labelling them as such?

      • +4

Of course they're not meant to be doing that, but most people probably don't even realise they're getting resealed stock.
I read about this all the time before and, because of that, I've just never even bothered ordering anything from Kogan regardless of how much cheaper they are.

  • Give them hell OP that not how they come packaged. this is dodgy af.

Sounds like Kogan did a Kogan

  • I have a pair of AirPods as well and I can confirm that they did not come like that. When you bought them, where they posted as new? Or used?

  • +1

I'd be asking your Dad, or your wifes Dad.

  • Bought Philips Hue starter kid years back at Kogan using the discount voucher.
They mentioned it's box damaged and it's brand new, but…

When I received it, it has a sticker showing an Apple logo with texts saying:
    Buyer remorse….

I think you have your dream come true by buying from Kogan - buying a brand new product that comes with preowned condition lol

    • how do you think ruslan Kogan made his millions

bought an iron from them once and it look used

  • I've bought two things from Kogan recently. They're clearly inferior stock. I could run through the hassle of returning them because they're just not quite right, but it's too hard. I'm just really hesitant to buy from them. The first one is a refurbished phone with a dodgy battery and the second was Beats headphones that hardly ever pair correctly.
