Twitter SMS Never Works with ALDImobile

I've been having trouble with Twitter's SMS verification for a long time now. Twitter has recently blocked every account on my phone as they thought I am a robot..

So, all I have to do is do a captcha and then verify my number, easy right?

Well no, SMS from Twitter never ever come through with my ALDImobile number - everything else does. I've checked several times to make sure that my phone isn't doing any blocking stuff, and it's not.

Does anyone know a solution to this issue? There's no information around :(

  • What's your phone?

    • S20 Ultra!

  • Use email verification?

    • Once you are in that loop of them asking to confirm by sms, there is nothing you can do to get out of it and can't use your Twitter account or change settings.

      • My twitter is still using an old number, email works fine to reset password tho 🤷‍♂️

          • @noren7: Exactly what happened to us. Just fill in the BBB form and it goes directly to some higher level Twitter support. They'll take off the 2FA/phone number.

            • @neil: Thanks! I'll check it out

Same here. Some ALDI Mobile numbers don't receive Twitter SMS but can receive every other service. This is partly why we couldn't unlock our Twitter account

Unfortuately Twitter don't respond to support requests so we had to put it a complaint to the BBB: San Francisco Office a couple of times. They answered and unlocked the account and removed phone number from account within a few days.

The alternative way, which I haven't tried, is to port your number to another service just to receive the SMS, then back to ALDI.

    • or…. just don't use Aldi mobile

      • I suppose you could use the Belong $10 p/m plan instead?

        • boost actually, but seeing that there's so many issues with ALDI, why not just move to a different service provider

          • @avgbowlofpho: I'm considering moving to Boost, I wonder if it's best to get a new number entirely or keep this one. I don't know if I trust ALDI to port the number properly.

    • This really sucks, I use Twitter on the daily and am very disappointed about this.

I wonder why this is the case.. I have two ALDImobile numbers myself and they don't work at all.

As they thought I am a robot..

By any chance do you happen to weigh 400 pounds and not sleep?

  • I'm on Belong and I can't get the Twitter SMS either. I'm not sure why that's the case.
On the other hand, my partner is on Telstra and she's getting the SMS.

The problem is if you haven't verified, some options are disabled and it's a huge PITA.

    • I had this issue too, and now I'm completely ✨blocked✨ on a device level because I can't verify to unlock my account
Why is this such an issue :/

  • Filing a complaint with the BBB worked, I now have access to my accounts again 😎

    • Good to hear. Make sure you remove your phone number from Twitter asap. We didn't and it got locked again and stuck in same loop.

      • Oh no, I made sure to do that straight away 😅

  • Does your number begin with 0492? I had similar problems, turns out that range had only just been made available and lots of websites didn't see it as a real number because when they set up their number verification it wasn't publically available.

    • Mine doesn't. I switched to a different provider (Dodo) and now the Twitter 2FAs are coming through.

      • So it seems that porting is the only solution!

    • 0490 - have had this for a few years, a typical Telstra MVNO number

  • Curious to know for those who've had issues with SMS 2FA, what number do you put in the Mobile Number field (sans Country Code)?

I used to do the following:

    • Country Code: +61
    • Mobile Number: 411 222 333

    Which never got delivered.

However, the following format got delivered:

    • Country Code: +61
    • Mobile Number: 0411 222 333
    • Tried both vigorously before creating this forum post! They come through the same unfortunately..
      What provider is this with?

      • I thought I had a problem with Belong. But I haven't had a problem using the new format.

Unless they resolved the issue in between a couple of months ago and now.
