  • Is there any difference between this and the slightly older one? I can see it has a netflix button on the remote etc, but the specs seem the same?

    • +3

The mi box 3 now only has android 8, but surprisingly they have a beta android 9 currently getting tested, which the s has officially support for 9, but unsure of official release for it.

I'd personally wait for Google to release Sabrina or even the new xiaomi stick, not the current new one but the new new one lol

  • +2

No, they're functionally identical based on the reviews I've seen.

  • +5

I’d rather get the Vodafone TV with local warranty.

    • Is the Vodafone tv good? I'm thinking of getting one

      • I have one and it's been decent for my usage, but worth noting has some drawbacks:

USBs plugged in can only be fat32 which means no files larger than 4gb
No auto-frame rate switching (more annoying than you'd think)

Main differences to Mi Box besides being local vs imported are the Voda has a TV tuner and an (100mbit) Ethernet port and Mi Box has neither. You can get an USB to Ethernet adapter though.

  • Is there any smart box with remote/air mouse?

  • +5

Googles new Chromecast "Sabrina" is coming out soonish. Might be better to hold off and wait for that.

    • +2

People have been saying that since pre covid I think

      • +2

I'd be super surprised if it's not in stores in the US before the end of the year. If you can hold off you should.

I'd suggest getting something with an ethernet port, makes these devices more versatile, particularly if you want to do in home game streaming.

    • +1

I got a usb ethernet hub thing for 10 bucks that works well

      • +1

        That's not bad.

I just had a look, the vodafone tv has an ethernet port built in and is $72 shipped.

        • +1

Mate, the vodaphone TV is a great unit. I replaced my nexus player with it and it has never missed a beat.

          • +1

@mcpondy69: Just be aware that the automatic updates stop you from using the USB to play movies. So if you plan on connecting a HDD to it, think again or read up on how to bypass the auto update.

            • @syba: How is Voda better than mi box? I have to buy but please help decide.

            • @syba: Not totally true. You can still use the USB if your drive is formatted as FAT32, which has a file size limit of 4GB. Or if you want to use a NTFS drive, which most are, you can buy an app from the Playstore called "JS USB OTG" that will let you access all the files on an NTFS drive but it's a bit slow apparently.

            • @syba: I only use it for streaming and playing from network shares. This is a great unit, as I said, mine has never missed a beat, I've had mine for almost a year now.

  • How is Voda better than mi box? I have to buy but cannot decide.

  • Not the best price

    What's the best price?

    • $0 obviously

      • Do you have a link where I can buy it for that?

  • Does this have the proper Widevine Certificate for 4k Netflix?
