    is this a grey import?

    • Yes, TobyDeals sell grey imports.

JB had the S20 128GB (local stock) for $919 just recently… don't think its a good price for a grey import.

    • Definitely not. And they also had the $99/month 12 month Telstra deal (+$199 for the handset) which you could cancel for <$600 making the total cost around $795 outright for those who felt like the effort.

  • You have better odds as the casino than paying close to $1k for a grey import phone that may or may not arrive

    • Dont forget to use TOBY10 to save extra $10
      Shopback 1.5% cashback - $13.5

local is with Exynos chips and single sim. Dual sim in overseas model is quite common and dont know why Samsung AU does not import this model.

    • +10

A completely uneducated guess, but I’d say because Exynos are Samsung developed chips which they profit more from using (both at POS and R&D) but in order not to be universally panned, they just dump them in markets like Australia where people are used to overpaying for substandard services.

people are used to overpaying for substandard services

Wait, what? That's impossible. I'll give you an example. For instance…. erm… interne.. no, that's slow and expensive. Ok, got it: cars… no… ah, IKEA! No, that costs twice as much as overseas.

Well, I can't think of anything for the moment, but I'm sure it's just an allegation!!

Medicare! We pay a fortune for it… oh wait..

          • +3

@onlinepred: Medicare is pretty good, actually, but pricey overall. But I agree, we need to take into account the overall positive social impact of having general care, it is working well in my view (although I'm sure many would disagree)

I used to work for a importer, and yes, if your not making at least 40% margin in Australia then there is something wrong

Dual sim promotes working together, ie Telstra and Optus - they certanly don't want that so it's a silent agreement.
How do I know, used to work at Telstra for many years.

Maybe possible to price match at OW!

    • grey import…

      • They did price match grey imports before!

        • It depends on what store you go to and if the employee and or manager you speak to is nice and feeling generous.
Don’t try price match on the phone with head office as they’ll deny straight away, go in store and speak to someone about it and maybe you’ll get the deal. Last resort is to see if jbhifi will price match which they might.

          • @jayboi: Its hit and miss. For identical products they 100% should (e.g. if the model number is the same as the OS/AU one), their price beat guarantee specifically used to exclude it but they removed the exclusion however they then removed it from the exclusions and continue to exclude it.

I believe its deceptive, they have the right to exclude it but they should mention it and be up front about it.

  • Warranty is tricky with these, many reported that Samsung does not deal with the warranty if it's from overaseas

    • +1

Dealing with Samsung warranty from buying directly at their online store is hard enough already

      • Samsung service centre checks for serial number and IMEI If Its Australian model. They appear to have stopped accepting mon Aus model. I got my S9 serviced a month back and experienced this, mine was Aus model and they accepted

        • +1

Oh they eventually process my warranty but it took like 1.5 months for me to get a replacement. Honestly, I don't really recommend buying from Samsung anymore unless you get a really good deal. Their customer service is so subpar for a premium brand

          • @ln28909: Agreed, also my S8 wasn't powerful enough to run the VR goggles it was designed to run with. damn updates slowed down the phone considerably (copying Apple I presume)
My Huawei on the other hand, 2 years old, 2 day battery life and still going strong with updates.

      • have to agree this. Had a samsung s7 edge, sent to Sumsung for replacement at $300 -$400, but they would also charge ~$200 for a rear case cover replacement, which has a tiny little line of crack. The whole repair would end up with $500 - $600. I decided to never buy a Samsung phone just due to this poor customer service.

  • wonder what happens to these stores in HK once the China and HK borders are erased

    • They are stores that make hongkong economy money. Why would China get rid of them when they will make China economy money?

      • i mean the prices of the phone, would they increase? also once china gets into the spot, would that mean there will only china roms on the devices which means no playstore

  • Are these Snapdragon models?

    • they have both options i think
