Legit Replacement Laptop Power Adapters - Where?

My Samsung Series 9 (circa 2013) Laptop Adapter has died - doesnt light up when plugged into the wall and no longer charges the laptop. Pretty confident its the charger as the laptop is otherwise fine.

I've found a few sites online that sell adapters, and the only information I can find about these websites is they are China based and selling generic/fake crap, despite looking legit.

Where can I find something legit? Either a genuine samsung, or a legit brand name after-market? I'm not a huge fan of generic crap plugging into 240v. Not interested in upgrading the laptop as still perfectly good for my use.

You can probably pickup a Targus charger from JB Hifi/Officeworks if it's got a standard connector pin.

    • Great idea! If the samsung charger I have is 2.1A, 19V, thats approx 40W? So if I go the slimline 65W Targus, I should be OK?

90W Targus seems overkill based on the above. Would rather the smaller adapter and weight.

      • Just to chime in. You can use a 65W or 90W adapter with no issue even though your laptop may need a lower wattage. As long as it is 19-20V charging, it is compatible. The laptop will pull whatever that I needs. On the reverse though say if you have a laptop that needs 90W charging but you give it a 65W power adapter, thats cool too but it will charge a lot slower and if you really load your machine it will just get the shortfall from the battery. Meaning you now have a battery drain.

I say the Targus 65W is the way to go. Its quite slim too so it is perfect for taking it with you. But if you plan to use the charger on a variety of laptops at home, then it won't hurt to go 90W.

Genuine is expensive. China is cheap. I’ve used China ones when mine carked it

  • Originals but used from Gumtree should be OK

Ended up picking up the Slimline Targus one from JB… easiest click and collect to get back up and running in Stage 4 restrictions.

Odds on you will find the genuine Samsung item is also made in China.
As a matter or interest have you tested the current transformer with a multi-meter to make sure it is actually faulty?

  • There was a place in Adelaide which I found when looking for an adapter for my ASUS but I can't find it right now. I did eventually find this place in China which had a genuine adapter or a very good imitation and it was half the price of the Adelaide adapter. Whatever, it has been working OK since Feb 2020. https://www.auadapterstore.com/home
I'll keep looking for the Adelaide place and post back here.

    • The place in Adelaide that I was going to buy from until I found the AU Adpater store in China, was https://www.laptopplus.com.au/index.aspx My adapter was rare and difficult to find but they had it. I had to email and ask because I couldn't find it in their search. Good luck.
