Cool tip - if you're using Safari, go to the link OP posted and touch the logo to open up the AR function of the Event Logo

    • Wtf.. what does it do? Just switches from the logo to 915?

      • That's the American date, 15/09 in Aus. Is the AR mode selected up top on yours? You probably need to be on iOS 13 as well btw.

  • Is it worthwhile to wait for this event before purchasing an iPod Air?

    • +6

If you can't wait a week then go ahead.

    • If you buy it from Apple you get two weeks to return it, no questions asked.

  • +4

None, but the Apple events is always fun to watch.

    • I remember back in the day of the iPhone 4 launch staying up late to watch the keynote… can’t really do it these days but am tempted to try and watch this one.

  • So no cost vs spec benefit? Do the new models hit the same price point as the current model? Presumably the current models fall in price?

    • +4

Apple's ARM designs in all current model iPhones are already faster than any Android on the planet, so there's nothing really to measure an iPhone against. The new chip will be even faster but the only other phone you can compare it to is last years model. Or in other ways, like improvements in on the fly photo enhancement in camera mode.

  • Don’t be surprised if next week’s event doesn’t have any new iPhones just yet:

Only thing i care about next week is iOS 14

  • +4

New Apple TV isn't rumored for this event, but that's what I'm hoping for

  • I've already got XS, the second oldest iPad Pro, and latest Apple Watch, and I've already got a good quality camera. Only reason I'd upgrade any of them now is if the new Apple Watch had ECG and the current one didn't get an update to support ECG. Or if a family member wanted any of my current devices.

    • I'll be pretty devo if they don't announce the iPhone 12 cos my iPhone SE 1st Gen certainly needs replacing

      • SE2? Until 14/9 it will have the fastest chip available in an iPhone.

        • I've got the 1st Gen (2016) which has an A9

          • @ThithLord: Yeah sorry I meant why not pick up an SE2? Or are you fangin for a good camera haha.

            • +1

@ilikeradiohead: I like the form factor of the iPhone 12, to be honest. And yeah, it'll have a pretty swish camera

I'll be surprised if they talk about iPhone, the title seems to hint at Watches. Apple has already said they will be late with the iPhones. They normally do phone releases around this time to mid October like the Iphone X was years ago. So late for Apple could be November.

Had to get a new phone today so as much as I'd like to wait and see I can't be without a phone for a month or more if they have delays, easier to buy one today and sell it in a few months at a small loss. I have zero interest in 5G, the technology is spotty at best and drains battery. I got it from JB and they have $150 off so I am hoping I won't be down much if I need resell.

    • Apple has already said they will be late with the iPhones.

Did they? Or was that the 'leakers'?

      • Yes.. they made a statement at their last investors meeting that iphone will be at least a month later than last years model

    • correct
100% confirmed by apple that iphone will be later this year (not a leak, but an apple statrement at their investor meeting)

they wont announce an iphone that you cant order for over a month.
Early October event is expected for phone and homepod and maybe apple silicon iMac

    baa baa

  • what's so great about iphone 12? I have 5G in my area with a very strong signal so my speeds will be very high.

  • Actually any news on a new Homepod or Homepod mini would what i would be looking out for.

  • Replacing my 8 with the 12 Max or 12 Pro, not sure yet.

  • Word is iPhone and Homepod will not be announced at this event

Ipad and Apple watch event only.
    https://9to5mac.com/2020/09/08/apple-september-event-apple-w…

Phone has been confirmed by Apple to be released later than last years model
So they are unlikely to announce it if wait time is 1 month + for any model

  • This is a leading question and most probably from a marketer!

anyone know how to buy an apple watch from the US? need ecg function. thanks.

    • +1

Have you looked at a parcel forwarder? They were all the rage a few years ago when the AUD was strong and there was a huge discrepancy in pricing.

      • yes, but not sure which one to choose. any recommendations?

        • Never used one, but there should be some forum posts from a few years back where people talked about them. Dig through the ozb forums I'm sure there are some reliable ones out there.

    • +1

you can enable ecg in Australia by changing location.

      • You need a US model though I think?

        • I did it on Australian Model. It works. No jail break needd.

          • @jdeep: Oh really? What are the exact steps to do it? Thanks in advance 😀

            • +2

              @WoodYouLikeSomeCash: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsYPrwKz0Rk

followed this video and worked like a charm

              • @jdeep: Thanks! Will give it a go :)

              • @jdeep: Thanks mate. I believe iMazing app is a temp solution and this is a paid app. Apple may block this workaround anytime, especially when upgrading to watchOS 7 —— corrrect me if im wrong

The other alternative is to syn some ecg data in your iCloud and this would also enable ecg function. Again, this may be blocked in future updates.

so that's the reason why i want to buy one from the US.

                • +1

@nomoneya1: Yeah I’ve currently got WatchOS 7 and iOS 14 (both Developer betas) so will report back how I go.

                • +1

@nomoneya1: Tbh I gifted a watch to my brother in India from Australia.when ECG was launched in India, it worked fine without doing anythign extra.

                  • @jdeep: interesting, but what i read is non ecg region purchased watch ecg will not work in ecg enabled region. this is what apple support replied to people on twitter.

                • @nomoneya1: Didn’t have any luck, on the backup stage it hanged on preparing for around ~40mins…

  • I am sitting tight this year, have a year old iPhone 256gb 11 pro still like new with 100% battery, a 11 month old iPad 11 pro with AC and S5 watch. For anyone selling mobile monster tanked their prices overnight, $200 drop on my phone, not worth it selling to them.

  • Sell iPad Air 2019 for this new iPad? Thoughts?

    • i am debating the same thing but is it really worth the hassle

  • Still rocking a gen 1 Air 16gb.
As long as it runs Koala sampler I'm peaches.
