Sharing My Experience with Scorptec

Hi Everyone

Just wanted to share my experience with Scorptec.

I bought a MSI Optix MAG341CQ from Scorptec in Janurary 2020 and then it got a dead pixel and some flickering in August 2020. So i put in a claim with Scorptec and they mentioned they're super busy and it will take 3-4 weeks to resolve. When in fact I know that MSI told me dead pixels can't be fixed and the monitor needs to be replaced. So effectively I'd be without a screen for that period of time when I know the outcome anyway.

I also noticed that the Scorptec website said 4ms response time and MSI states 8ms. So I told the Scorptec live chat rep who said he will look into it, 4 days later nothing. So I then escalated to live chat again and now magically it's 8ms response time.

My question here is has anyone come across this with PC stores? Should Scorptec issue a notice to other buyers of this change in spec or error? How do i trust that anything I buy from Scorptec can be changed on there a website with no notice?

I managed to get my money back, after waiting 40 mins in the store though.

Just wanted to let people know who bought this monitor, if you do want a refund it is possible just speak to your Scorptec store.

So they had an error on their website, you notified them and they fixed it.

    Is that an issue?

yep but wasn't told it was changed, and my question is should they notify other buyers about this?

Sometimes the pat on the back you give yourself has to be enough.

Flickering. Let me guess. You have a Nvidia card? I'm right aren't I?

Scorptec are one of the best PC companies I've dealt with. Been buying from them for about a decade. So decided I'd jump in on this.

    1. Google cache does indeed confirm they inadvertently put 4ms in the description at some point. However the MSI specs further down the page, and on the specs tab on that page both say 8ms.
    2. As per just about every website out there with T&Cs "There maybe misprints, human errors, or omissions on our website. We reserve the right to make changes and corrections in prices, products and specifications without notice. We are not responsible for typographical errors. "
    3. You got your money back. Sounds like great customer service at the end of the day. A single dead pixel is not a major fault.
    • +2

Agreed. Most monitor companies wouldn't honour any warranty service for a dead pixel.
Sounds like you had a great result from Scorptec

      • +1

        Yep, msi doesn't

MSI Monitor do not have 0 pixel defect warranty DOT Policy : Bright Dot > 3 Dots, Bright dot gap < L >=15mm

        Dark Dot > 5 Dots

        https://www.msi.com/page/warranty/monitor

      • Yeah, i read that, just a question do you think 1 dead pixel is not major if even 1 dead pixel cant be fixed and the only remedy would be to replace the whole panel?

Legitimate question im curious to know what you think

        • +3

I'm sure I have had dead pixels in the monitors that I've had but I don't get new glasses often enough so haven't noticed anything.

Have to say that while it took you three days to get your money back, the fact that you did speaks well of Scorptec since they have gone above and beyond what the manufacturer covers.

I have purchased from them before and have always had decent service, luck has been on my side though with nothing needing warranty service so can't comment on that side of their business.

          • @iampoor: Yeah i did get my money back thank goodness, I think they only refunded me because I was sold something that didn't reflect the specs after i made them realize that

I have always had a good experience with them till this so can't say its all bad, but just wanted to let people there consumer rights

    • +1

      yeah a nvidia gpu

      1. I totally get companies can put that clause in there but how does in anyway protect the consumer, most companies can just advertise something then claim "human error" and change it and never tell you after youve bought it. I've seen many companies like JB make formal website claims on error they make which i appreciate

      2. I didnt really go into detail but it did take me 3 days to debate with them to get my money back, and wasnt to fussed on getting my money back on the dead pixel it was more the change of information between purchase and refund.

But i totally get your point mate

it did take me 3 days to debate with them to get my money back

        Debate? Oh lordy.

Don't take that to mean you were successful in your "debate" - it just means they were willing to lose money to get you off their back, despite the fact they weren't in the wrong. It's sometimes easier just to grease the squeaky wheel, let it roll elsewhere, and help it never turns in your direction again.

        • @Pinchie If that were the case and they just wanted to get me off there back why change it to 4ms, just keep it at 8ms? i was wrong right?

      • +1

The reason I knew you had a nvidia card is this is like the most common issue when using a Freesync monitor instead of a Gsync monitor with a nvidia card. The issue is nvidia's drivers. NOT the monitor.

It also takes all of 6 seconds to fix if you did a quick google.

    That's not dodgy.

Scorptec did the right thing, boo woo you waited ONLY 40 minutes to get a FULL refund outside of the actual DOA requirement of what, 30 days? They could've sent this off to repair for a nice 4-8 week stint, which basically means just assessment and replace.

Also you got this done during COVID19, where the wait times were exacerbated and those poor blokes have to deal with the likes of you?

I've spent over 15k at Scorptec in the past 5 years, they're easily better than PCCG or MSY.

I had my GPU have some connectivity issues, they packaged and sent it off to the manufacturer on the day I brought it in and I got an upgraded replacement within 2-3 weeks.

Sometimes their preorder ETAs don't hit the mark, but I can't really blame them with that. Also, if something breaks and you have to send it in get repaired, and don't have a replacement, it isn't their responsibility to give you something in the mean time, that is what insurance is for. Like if your car breaks down and you pay the premium for a free hire car during the repair.

      1. I spent over 6 hours on chats and calls to get my money back. So the 40 mins in the store to just tap my card to get the money back i would say is unreasonable.

      2. I wouldnt say Scorptec are poor blokes at all, there business seems to be booming in new business even during covid, my point is why send it off when you know the outcome.

      3. 100% scorptec are better then msy and msy did get fined alot of money years ago for some fraudulent warranty claims.

I do agree mate ETA's dont hit the mark but that could be of many reasons they cant control like the manufacturer being shipping issues. My point is here that while they can control whats on there website and what they do when they make an error they didnt. I just want to let people know that if you do have this monitor it isnt what they bought at 4ms its infact 8ms.

Scorptec said may not contact or put a notice out for his error.

Imagine in your scenario with a car, you bought a V8 and it was advertised as a V8 when you buy it from a third party dealer, then you go back and check the website 6 months later because you aren't getting a V6 performance only to realize its a V6. Of course you'd want your money back. But as a consumer/human id want the company to let others know that this is the case who had bought the car.

"I wouldnt say Scorptec are poor blokes at all, there business seems to be booming in new business even during covid, my point is why send it off when you know the outcome."

        It's called a process.

There is nothing bad with Scorptec at all. They might not be as cheap as MSY but it's made up for by the quality service.

Try the same scenario with MSY next time and see how you go?

        • How long would expect it to take them to send it to msy? my monitor sat in the same spot in the store for 3 days…. is that the typical process?
So i cant say there is nothing bad with Scorptec

I will agree with you i have heard bad things about MSY but haven't had that experience so cant comment

Is 4ms vs 8ms noticeable to the untrained eye?

    • I don't know if it's that clear but companies definitely charge more for a lower response time

  • +1

An error occurred in the specs, they've refunded you - nice. Crap happens, they ended up sorting it for you.

    • Yep thankfully got my money back

As a result of this post I'm going to buy my upcoming 3080 from them. I feel sorry for the poor sales and support staff who had to put up with you for 3 days.

    • I'd wait and see what AMD brings to the table with their RDNA2 spec cards

      • Same i think RDNA2 will be the best value

    • Yep they have already have a registration page for 3000 series

  • I have bought several monitors from Scorptec over the years and been very happy with my purchases, BUT recently I bought a Benq EX3501R curved gaming monitor. As I opened the box, without unwrapping the contents, I knew I had made a mistake. I am not a gamer and this model, whilst a very good monitor, is not suitable for my needs. Scorptec refuse to allow me to return it citing Corvid-19 fears, even though I haven't unboxed the monitor. Your thoughts on my next move.

    • +1

Retailers legally don't have to refund for change of mind.. sell it and buy the one you want 🤷

    • typically scorptec is good with returns, and they used to do a refund on opened items within 30 days and they just charged a 10% restocking fee

I would ask them for this or, ask them if they can take it back after there return policy will change after the crazy covid stuff changes
