    • Trying to figure out why you were downvoted… was it because you posted the black version, not the brown?

Grey import, and they negged the deal.

Save $70-odd bucks to buy from Toby as opposed to a proper Aussie retailer with a warranty? No chance. Ridiculous neg.

Would this be better than an Olympus em-5 mkii?

    • Probably not but depends what it's used for. Olympus as a camera company is limited so as long as you don't plan to buy a new m4/3 body and don't go crazy with your lens purchases.

      • I've got the em-10 mk iii and em-5 mk ii bodies, so was just curious about Fuji's side of the ditch. That being said , the future appears a bit shady with Olympus even though they've released lenses since.

Very subjective topic. I use Olympus, have not used modern Fujifilm's (but wouldn't mind trying).

If I was purely after better IQ, I would probably use the Fujifilm. The 24mp APS-C X-Trans sensor should perform better than the 16mp sensor on the E-M5 mk ii. The x-trans sensor has a very good reputation. The APS-c format is almost always going to win in a low light shoot off with M43.

Usability…the Olympus isn't known for having the best menu system, though otherwise has excellent controls for an enthusiast. The Fujifilm also has excellent controls, and may offer a better menu system.

Ruggedness - I suspect the Olympus wins. Nice build, and weather sealing.

Size…surprise to me, but looks like the Fujifilm is the smaller size. This may or may not be a good thing - size/shape between these probably comes down to your preference between rangefinder and SLR styles.

Lens range - Olympus makes some beautiful glass, and in many cases it will likely be cheaper than equivalent APS-C glass for the Fujifilm. The modern Fujifilm glass seems to be well regarded though. Lots of third party options for the Olympus, including all of the Panasonic M43 glass.

Olympus going out of business? Yeah…maybe. I don't think it's worth worrying about at the moment though. The main concern might be, can you still get servicing preformed in future if needed? (Probably for a while yet). Hey, even Nikon is in trouble. The used market for M43 gear will be ticking along for a good while to come, regardless of what happens to Olympus.

Image stabilisation - I would argue that Olympus is still the industry leader in this. The Fujifilm doesn't have this at all. I have taken some stupidly long handheld shots with my E-M5 ii, and they look as though they may have come off a tripod!

Both are excellent cameras. I love my E-M5ii, but to be honest, if I was picking out of these two cameras at close to the same pricing, I would probably lean towards the Fujifilm for the (I would argue) better sensor. In many other aspects though, the Olympus wins.

Pretty good review and thank you for this. I will stick with Olympus I think, need the image stabilization and it's probably enough for my needs.

  • how does it compare to fujifilm xf10 ?

    • Can't really compare. Made for different markets. Different sensors and the xf10 has a fixed lens while Xe3 allows for interchangeable lenses but you need lenses. Xe3 is essentially an xt20/xt2 without the bells and whistles. Still does almost everything but much cheaper and more compact.

    • Much much better than the xf10. XF10 is very disappointing. Very slow. XE3 is slightly better than the xt20. Runs on the came core tech but a few tweaks as it is slightly newer. I love the rangefinder style by chose the xt20 because of the flip up screen
