1170

Leeds are back in the Premier League! So it’s time for all us Leeds fans to migrate over to Optus Sport!

Optus Sport is available for free for those on eligible Optus deal - check you don’t have one before you purchase it again!

However for those who are on a network that actually works in country Australia, then you will need to purchase Optus Sport as a stand alone option.

The previous cheapest way to access Optus Sport for non Optus people was this hack for $120/year: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/510843#comment-8578025

Discovered today that there is a deal for 12 months access via an annual pass for $99 and no need to stuff around with prepaid sims.

Deal available until the 27 September 2020. Take a look at turning off auto renewal in case they try to double the price and auto charge you 12 months time.

Also note that this deal isn’t available to fans of a small club that plays in red from Manchester - You have to be the biggest club in your city to benefit from this deal……

Same for me. Previous Optus customer and it still works years later with the same login details.

      • Optus gave out free fetch mini boxes for free during world cup fiasco.. still have my fetch mini and optus sport account working since then

        • Just to exisiting customers?

Isn’t it just soccer though? Probably should be called Optus Soccer.

Only insular people living in a pissy 25 million populated backwater who don’t understand what part of the body the foot is call it ‘Soccer’
        For everyone else, it’s Football

          Soccer

        • +1

The Americans call it Soccer too I believe. It is weird that we follow British English over American English, yet we picked Soccer over Football. Any know the history of why?

          • +6

@OzzyBrak: The name soccer is from Britain as a nickname for "Association football" as opposed to "Rugby football" by the time the Brits decided just to call them rugby and football there were other games called football in Australia and the US so we just kept calling it soccer.

With aggression like this, it’s no wonder soccer fans always riot and behave like thugs.

          • +2

@PainToad: Should they instead take after the rape & paedophilia of the eggballers?

        • Even in Australia things have changed. Now the main body is Football Federation Australia (FFA) instead of Australian Soccer Association. A good step in the right direction. Soccer comes from US association football, and it spread to a few countries ( US, Canada, South Africa, Australia etc), but for most of the sport playing nations it is Football.
Here in Australia I quality when I say Football by adding the world game, and everyone understands.
Communication should be suited for the audience if possible.
          Thanks!

How many screens? Can you share a sub?
EDIT - google indicates 1 screen at a time - boooo

    • Must've changed it.
I thought it was 3 devices last time.
I've been selling my free sub for $5 a month periodically.

    • I have watched two games at the same time. one on Tv and other on a laptop.

I have to say that Optus provides a great service for anyone who follows the round ball game.

I admit I didn't at first but the service has improved tenfold over the past few years that it has won me over.

The price is excellent compared with other streaming options and the ability to stream most games on demand was a big plus for me being on a different time zone.

My EFL club is currently offering a streaming package for around $250 (140GBP) that doesn't even have an on demand option only live games.

Enjoy the full EPL coverage - I know I certainly did it when we were in it. For the past few years I've bought a resold subscription for $5 per month via the classifieds.

Hopefully we will get back and join you sooner rather than later. Good Luck!

    • +1

I have to agree and i find it to be worth it more than Foxtel subscription, basically paying for channels that i don't watch and also can't watch anything on demand and on other platforms

    • If only there was something like this for the NBA and the Bundesliga too.

BeIn is not worth the money.

    • +2

I agree - My only gripe is that it's limited to 720p, which is pretty low I feel for the price point.

  • I'm paying $15/month through Google Play. Any way to swap to the Annual Pass short of cancelling and resubscribing?

    • +2

i just cancelled my google pay one and resubscribed with new email address but with same mobile number. No issues and got the 1Y subscription.

  • +8

Honestly Optus is 10x better than Foxtel. I can't believe I used to pay $65 to watch premier league on foxtel.

Hopefully they will get the rights to F1 and A league too.

    • +3

A league hopes anyone wants the rights

    • $65 per month…

    • +1

That is an apples and oranges comparison though, completely different products.

A more realistic comparison would be Optus Sport and Kayo seeing as that is a sports only streaming service and Foxtel + Sport is a TV service that has a sports add on.

      • +1

I used to pay $65 for sports package and their useless basic package.

        I think it's a fair comparison.

  • +3

"However for those who are on a network that actually works in country Australia" … +1 for the subtle savagery :)

  • Anyone using this, can you have simultaneous streams ?

  • Does this work without an Optus phone? I tried to register last night and it asked for a eligible phone number.

  • +3

+1 Vote from me for having little stab at Manure

    • they spending big again this year…

  • Great deal. We can now all watch the sheep shaggers.

  • +9

    I wish they had 4K

  • +5

They could at least stream in 1080p… Kudos to Kayo for at least getting this bit right.

Now if only Optus purchased the rights to F1, or Fox bought back the rights to EPL, I could cancel one of them. I only watch two sports, but I have to have two streaming services to watch them both. Yay Australia…

    • Same I watch F1 and premier league and champions league.

    • You could try F1 tv Pro and a VPN? I had a quick look and Zimbabwe and South Africa are $5usd/month.

    • I wish you could choose sports to subscribe to like the UK equivalent of kayo

    • +1

Ive read forum posts which say that running optus sport through a Fetch Mighty improves your stream quality to 1080p but ive not found anyone who can confirm this. Picture quality is very poor which to me is the only downside to their offering.

  • +9

This is a great deal and value for what you get, for people following the EPL it's one of the best services worldwide from what I've seen. The only negative is that they still stream in 720p resolution, which kinda sucks in 2020, although watching on a TV with upscaling helps slightly. Well, that and having to put up with Michael Owen for media analysis.

The 20 min "mini match" highlights are a godsend for catching up on early morning matches before you get spoiled for the result. And the more recent "mega mini match" 40 min highlights are even better. Haven't had any streaming / buffering issues since the launch a few years ago, WC 2018 aside.

Always found it funny that we get a much better and cheaper service compared to the poms for their own league, even if you take the 3PM rule out of it.

      Michael Owen is a legend.

Extremely keen to see how Leeds fare this season!

  • +3

I've quite enjoyed having Optus sports for the last few years, when i had Foxtel it was mainly for EPL and it was such a rip off and having to pay extra for HD as well.

Was disapointed that Stan lost out to Binge for all HBO / showtime content. That would have been the icing on the cake for me.. I hate Foxtel.

    Go Arsenal!!!!!!

  • +3

    Hey MOT!
Great to see some more Leeds here.

    Great deal too!

It'll be so interesting to see how they do this season. Splashed some cash but couldn't keep Ben White.

  • Thanks OP. Can't wait to see Liverpool bottle it this season, what a sight it will be

  • Wow, 1st round - Leeds v Liverpool

  • Thank you and good timing! Restarted subscription with the $99 annual pass offer.

  • Restarted my previously cancelled subscription (from the when covid struck). Worked with my existing membership to restart the subscription on the annual price. Cheers OP.

Have just tried to cancel it though to avoid being auto-recharged next year, and can't find a way to do it.

Anyone found a way to cancel? It says to stop the auto recharge to simply cancel the subscription before the anniversary date, and the instructions say to go to Google Play > Subscriptions. However as it is no longer billed via Google I haven't found a way. Anyone able to cancel?

    • Log in > (top right "head") > Settings > Account Information > Delete payment information

Can't bill you if there's no card >.<

      • Yes but when I deleted my card it said “enter payment details to avoid subscription being cancelled”. If that refers to future payments, then fine, but I thought it might mean cancelling the existing payment. Of course if they did that, they would need to refund payment - prorata at least. Not sure, so I have left it for now, and may cancel in 11.99 months time.

I ported my wife's phone to Optus purely for this reason. No more LUTV, although I'll miss Bryn.

    ALAW MOT Kochs out lads.

    Bueno.

Optus are the worst company/isp/telco ever. As I have a subscription via the App Store, my subscription won't end until 3rd of October thus after the promotional period. I just signed up with another account as it will still end up cheaper. Gawd I hate Optus…….

  • Anyone know how to get this via the app? only the $14.99 plan available

  • +1

Thanks for the heads up OP, great value.

Couldn’t find any way of preventing auto renew other than cancelling subscription. No matter, guess I’ll review in a years time if the price goes ballistic

    • But wouldn't cancelling the sub still allow you to use it for the full year?

      • Probably should, but I’m not certain, so going to leave it for now.

    • If you log into the website on a PC, you will have the setting options available to you via a button on the top right.
Under the current subscription heading is the option to change or cancel your sub plan.
If you click on cancel, it will give you a warning that you can cancel your plan now but you subscription will continue until September 2021.
So your plan wont be cancelled today, you will still get 12 months access, but it wont be auto renewed in 12 months time.

  • Does anyone know if there is a way to use your itunes credit to pay for this? In my subscription section it's only possible to renew the monthly plan.
