  • how do you get 594? what does ETC mean?

    • Early Termination Fee. Basically you get the phone and the day after you ask them to cancel the contract. They're going to bill you the termination fee.

  • What's the process like? Just walk into JB and say I want that phone on a plan, once signed up, say I wanna cancel?

    • +12

Yea. Except you take phone in store without mentioning your intentional to cancel. Go home and then get on the Live Chat or call Telstra to cancel.

There are some reports they deny sale if you mention your intention to cancel although it is perfectly legal to cancel and pay the agreed upon cancellation fee as listed on the contract summary.

      • Thank you :D

      • Or if you are using your number, simply port out same or next day.

        • And this automatically cancels it?

        • The phone already has unlocked network access right?

      • Cheers mate

    • +3

After you sign up, go home, jump on the telstra chat and cancel

    • Please note that you need to be with a non-telstra network and transfer your number across.

This is as simple as buying a optus $2 sim and activating it, taking it to JB HiFi and using that number for the plan.

      • can we do it on the same day? as soon as porting is completed.

  • There is no $594 mentioned in there. How did you calculate that?

    • +5

The plan is standard $99 BYO and the terms for $99 BYO plan are listed in URL below. The offer of phone keeps changing. Pretty much they issue you a Jb Hi Fi e-gift card and then apply it with the discount at the POS. They need manager to apply this.

      • cheers mate! Wish there was similar plan for note 20 ultra

        • +4

It may come but it won't be zero upfront for sure. The previous hot deal was S20+ for $199 upfront.

  • +1

Please note it is only if you are switching from a non Telstra network plan.

    • +1

:( that is bad.. am already on boost. which uses telstra network..

      • +2

You can get around it, get a $2 optus/vodafone sim card from woolies, activate it and give it a crack. I've done this, it worked. Other OzBargainers have as well but some have said some JB Hifi stores have a 30 day period between activation and transfer. For $2 I'd give it a crack anyways if you are going to cancel in the end.

        • thx mate. doesn't porting take 24 hours?

          • @ozzyoi: upto 24 hours, it was ported by the time i left the shopping centre.

      • +1

Unless this deal is abnormal it applies to new customers too. Just sign up with the randomly provided number they give you and then put your boost Sim in it.

  • +1

This plan was $299 upfront yesterday https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/564724 now is $0 upfront, the iphone 11 64gb was also $299 upfront. It would be awesome if they also lowered the iphone 11 to $0 upfront

    • which one is better selling for them? well, there is no need for them to rush into bigger discount for iPhone … yet :)

    • wow how did i not see this?! .. but they won't do that. :(

  • Whats in the info on this s10?

  • +1

After getting the phone, can I just buy another sim to port the number out instead of chatting to online support? Will it cancel my contract with Telstra and trigger ETC automatically?

    • Yes certainly

      • +1

So does that also mean you need to pay the first month $99 making the phone almost $700?

        • +1

No, you'll have to pay for 1 day, as you will cancel the next day = $99/30 = $3.30

  • https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-s10-128gb-… - $899 upfront.

Outright is also not that expensive compared to other websites.

    • +2

that is always the case, jb will lower their outright price when they have this kind of promo.
after 14 September i think they will restore the price to $1,1xx similar like Harvey officeworks, etc

      • cheers mate:)

  • again??? just done few weeks ago with s20+ and now this…

    • -2

was s20 also with no upfront?

      • No that with 299 upfront.

        • Nope it was $199 upfront. I bought it during that deal.

          • @Slave1: oh my mistake. still a good deal if you are after the phone itself.

  • So does that also mean you need to pay the first month $99, making the phone almost $700?

    • +1

No it does not. If you cancel within the first few days you will get a part bill. I cancelled on the s20+ deal and got charged $1 for the month plus the $594 etc so paid $795 for a s20+

      • when was the s20+ deal posted?

        • +2

just search mate, s20+ sort by date

          • @CyberMurning: yeah I did, but it was not $0 upfront. it was $199 upfront.

            • +3

              @ozzyoi: Yes, so $594 + $1 + $199 = $794.

              • +2

@albot: $100 extra for the s20+ is a better deal than this small phone

Which is a better handset for carrying around

edit: soz $199 extra…not awake today

  • +1

So, it says 'In store only' - so no dice if we're in Melbourne?

    • -1

too bad, you are in lockdown

      • Actually, on the website there is a number to call. I can't imagine they were gonna exclude a population of 5 million people, kinda reduces their available customers…

  • Anyone who hasnt received etc bill from last s20+ offer?
I was also wondering if my credit rating would hurt or no if i dont pay by due date? I spoke to live chat, they said its nothing to do with telstra, but the credit and collections will be chasing you, so they kind of dont care about etc.

    • I haven't. Had to computer chat with telstra which was a gigantic pain and hugely time consuming as they weren't taking calls. But once I eventually got an answer they will charge everything on the bill AFTER the month is up. Can't help with credit ratings though.

For what its worth and in case anyone else might be able to get the same, I went last week to my local JB in Castle Hill, and asked them if I could sign up on this 12 month $99 plan (with $10 porting in discount) but instead of getting the then advertised phones on the signs they had up, I asked about the upfront price for the Note 20 5G model which just released. They said $349 upfront, so a $1300 giftcard to bring the price of that phone down from $1649 to $349. I did some quick maths in my head and was like 'thats a ridiculous deal' though I now think it must have been a mistake on their part.

$89 x 12 = $1068 + $349 = $1417. I didn't need the phone so flogged it on eBay for $1300 or so and now have 12 months of the Telstra $99 plan at $117 over 12 months. Not sure if it might help anyone but definitely worked for me!

      • that is internal between Telstra and JB HIFI, you will not see it until you buy the phone.
Anyone got the S20+ from last deal upfront $199 and 12 moths contract $99 Telstra, would be able to see the $1000 credit in the invoice.
        I hope this make sense.

        • -1

          Thanks mate

    • +2

      ripper deal mate.

    • +1

must be mistake cant be that cheap (the upfront)

    • Hot damn that's a good hack, nice work.

  • +4

Called to doubly check. NO DICE for Melbourne (Stage 4 lockdown). Rep said they are trying to work on a system/something that would allow Melbourne peeps to get these kind of deals - but unlikely in time for Melbourne.

    • Thanks. saved me from calling them.

      • Surprisingly I only had to wait 20 seconds… I did NOT expect that.

    • +1

Thanks for calling to check. Sad, I might have got this. :(

  • Can you get a S10+?

    • +1

      No. Just asked them in-store

  • +2

I have the samsung 20 plus in my greasy hands. I paid $790 thank jbhif

    • Good price but only problem is it's a gimped exynos

    • -3

      Was it today mate?

      • +1

In my hands? Yes right now

        • -1

Is that $790 total inc the ETC fee. And to confirm you purchased it today?

    • $790 + $99 for 12 month?

      .

  • My wife mentioned this phone/plan as she needs a new phone and likes the idea of 150gb a month but we are currently on Boost and she wants to keep her number.

Does anyone know if you can get the deal then get Tesltra to move her old number over to the new number/plan?

It woudl be easier than porting out etc. if possible.

    Cheers!

    • +1

What does she do that she needs 150gb a month on a phone?

      • Lol, I don't think she need s that much per se, but her work internet is shit so she watches stuff there a lot etc. I think it was more the phone and the cost :)

    • +1

No, they won't "port in" your boost number once you have activated another number on this plan. Technically possible but Telstra won't do it.

      • Cheers mate, that's what I thought!

    • Just sign up for the phone as a new customer and not port in. Cancel the contract, pay the fee, then plop the boost sim card into this phone.

I think that's the solution unless I didn't understand your dilemma properly.

      • Thanks mate, that looks like the easiest way to go!

        • looks like easy but not sure if possible, i think this deal required port ing in
          sorry bringin sad news

          1. Buy $2 Optus Sim from Woolies and activate random number.
          2. Go to JB and port that number to Telstra and get deal and S10
          3. Walk home and cancel Telstra
          4. Pop in your Boost card.

Anyone see a flaw here? This is what I wanna do tomorrow!

  • +1

This is cheaper than a Pixel 4a. Is the S10 [exonysis] better than a 4a though?

    • +2

Pixel 4a is a midtier budget phone.

S10 is a slightly lower-end flagship phone that also has IP rating and etc. I believe it should also have expandable storage.
Overall, should be far better than the Pixel 4a, the only difference is ongoing software support/updates which favours Pixel, which will get 3 years of updates from the release date and S10, while also getting 3 years support, will discontinue official support in another 2 years.

Given the choice, I would choose S10 due to the expandable storage and IP rating and other samsung features/functions.

      • +2

        re: the updates

for me, im happy to get $200 discount and get 1 month official update or even no android update at all.
i will just install custom roms from xda.
the good with Samsung, developer community is big.

        • That's a bit advanced for me.

          • +2

@AlexG: Don't sell yourself short. You're on ozbargain. You are ahead of 90% of the population. You can do it.

          • +1

@AlexG: no at all, just custom roms are easy. no need to root as well.

  • Sorry, noob question - does this involve a credit check? Also, if I opt out the next day, will my credit rating suffer?

    • Every phone you are getting with plan or contract they will credit check you.

    • Yes telstra will check your credit history upon application.

  • Hoping the S20+ will be back next round (15 sept) for $199 + ETC

    • +1

According to a comment above they may still be doing that unadvertised under this deal.

      • +1

Thanks. I just read that then going back up comments. Might ring my local store and ask
