Toledo 3/8” Torque Wrench - $85 + Shipping at Total Tools

50

I’ve been looking for a new torque wrench whilst I’ve been doing some engine work on the cars during lockdown.

Was looking at getting a 1/4” drive but the working range is usually limited to 25nm.

This one gives +- 4% accuracy (with certification) from 7-100nm so a much more useable range. It’s also a more manageable size compared to my 1/2” drive which I use for higher torque specs.

Decent brand and at RRP $100+ at supercheap/repco etc, this is a good deal.

  • Mechpro or toolpro are around 60 to 70 for the same thing diff engraving and a kincrome is about 100 from bunnings

I was looking at mech/toolpro too but was happy to pay $15 extra for this one which comes with certification (so you know it is at least calibrated at purchase).

      • Also I don't think I've ever seen the Mechpro or Toolpro ones go down to as low as 2Nm assuming that's legit.

  • 1/4" drive is great for bicycles so you don't snap bolts.

On the car, if you've ever done a VW plastic housing water pump, a good torque wrench is a must. A couple of Nm over the spec (12Nm??) and the housing will crack.

    $71.95 here:

$9.95 for shipping to me in SA

    • Actually pretty good pricing on that site!

Kinchrome Torque Wrenches (1/2, 3/8, 1/4) all $105 (free delivery).

And whilst I don't have a particular problem with Toledo, I'd take Kinchrome over them any day for almost the same price delivered.

      • Not certain but I think the Kinchrome only works in one direction (standard RH thread), so it can be limiting for use on a bicycle which also has LH threads. I think I read somewhere that the Toledo works in both directions - happy to be corrected.

    • That’s a great price but I wanted it today. If you’re happy to wait for postage i’d buy from there.

I ordered some other parts from a business within 5km (im in lockdown in Vic) and it has been 2 weeks and it still hasn’t arrived.

Other items have taken about a week to get here from interstate.

      • Repco delivers with a few hours. Best turn around I've had was 30min

  • Its all Torque
