Connecting Four Monitors to Computer

Hi

Currently have 3 monitors set up and don't have any further display ports for the 4th monitor.

What's the best way to add 4th monitor?

Edit:

I wouldn't be able to add any changes to the hardware due to work computer property.

Things to consider in order of price
    -USB to display port adapter
-USB docking station (vga, dvi, display port, HDMI options available)
-low profile graphics card with more display ports.
    -another computer/laptop?

Generally the top two are ok for office word/excel work. Consider graphics card if anything more intensive like a security camera video monitoring or alike

Usb to display port adapter. What would prices i would be looking at?

All i find seem relative expensive

There are cheaper ones - for example. If you only want 1920x1080 resolution Officeworks has a $30 adapter. I haven't used any of these.

You haven't said what model your monitors are. I suggest checking if they any of them have a DisplayPort output. If so, you should be able to daisy chain another monitor off it. Driving Multiple Displays from a Single DisplayPort Output.

Do not expect a USB display adapter to "just work" like other USB peripherals - the system has to explicitly support it, for that reason it usually only works with laptops, tablets and other portable devices. Looking at the pic of your system it looks like a basic SFF office PC and I doubt it would support DP over USB, especially with 3 outputs already in use.

  • The best way is to get a second GPU with >4GB ram. Anything else will cause more lag than it's worth.

  • Its just for general office use. No videos, gaming or use in that manner.

    • 4 monitors for general office use?

Get a ultrawide monitor. 32:9 gives same real estate as two of those 16:9 HP e243 (?) monitors. You could run one of these plus two of the HP without changing PC hardware. Perhaps more than you want to spend but better. Or a better GPU.

  • Wow. I have to ask, what type of processor does that PC have?

  • Didn't expect to see such a tiny PC case. I have rx 580 GPU and I think it has slots for six monitors. Some of them have to be HDMI though, there's only three display ports iirc. You might need a dedicated GPU. Even if you could add a fourth monitor somehow would the integrated graphics be up to the task of driving four full HD monitors?

Anyway, you could buy an iPad or something and use that as your fourth display. You can sync it to OneDrive to bring up the same files that sync over the internet.

I'd try a USB 3 video adapter. If it's just for Office use they are normally fine and cheap enough that you're not out of pocket much if it's not adequate. The best option would be to add a low profile graphics card. The problem with this might be that the internal graphics gets disabled so you might need a graphics card that has 4 outputs. Matrox make low profile graphics cards with 4 outputs. I've used them for NOC PC's driving 6 monitors and they work great. The M9148 LP is the current model.

Buy a cheap low-profile quadro K420 card, and install for use in the system (2x DP, excellent drivers, maximum power draw 41W, so will work ok with your SFF PSU).

  • Get a GPU with more ports, I got 5 ports in mine.
