What's the life expectancy of these Kogan TVs?

I wouldn't imagine them to last longer than a year or 2 at that price.

Anyone long term owners have an opinion?

I have 55" Kogan TV bought in 2017 still going strong no complaints

I've 55" Kogan SMART HD TV 3D (Samsung panel) - purchased in 2013 for $999 and is still going great.. Had some restarting issues but that's fixed after firmware update. Sound is crap but TV video quality is Awesome.. Not even a single complaint so far.. I m sure it will run for another 4-5 yrs easy.

      • I've got a 43" 4k in the bedroom….. It uses an LG panel.

    • I've had a few cheap crappy TVs and all of them have gone past the 3-4yr mark.

As mentioned speakers are crap on budget TVs but picture on one was very decent for the price.

    • I have a 40inch Dick Smith TV from 2015 that's still going strong. Only cost $240 thanks to ozbargain.

TV has worked flawlessly, has a great picture (Samsung panel) but mediocre sound. Plugged in some logitech speakers which fixed that.

    • I had one. Died just shy of two years. Luckily I paid for 3 year warranty with Kogan on purchase. Received credit for the refund and after some back and forth, was also refunded the shipping I paid. It was most inconvenient as they arranged a box to come to me, I then placed the TV back in a box, shipped it to their checking facility I guess to validate the issue (it stopped turning on) and after close to 2 months was finally refunded via credit. The TV quality was horrible. In a way, I was glad it died and was covered by warranty. I then purchased a much better TV, granted much more than the Kogan $400 odd, but you get what you pay for hey.

I have a 40" Kogan, still going strong after 7 years of daily use.

It's connected to a set top box & soundbar and I don't use an antenna, so very few of the parts that annoy folks about cheap TV'S are in use.

    • I had a 55" one I bought in 2009 and used it until last May (11 years in total), when I moved interstate. No complaints, worked as advertised. The sound was bad, but I preferred surround speakers anyway.

  • doesn't seem to have any apps (youtube, netflix, amazon) built in?

    • Yeah, but I suppose you could pair it with a Vodafone TV.

    • +5

You wouldn’t want that on a $369 tv anyway

      • +1

Absolutely, you're far better off saving $50-$100 by getting a non-Android model and investing that money on a Mi Box S or putting it towards a shield.

Frankly, I'd sooner do this even with the major brands (if it was an option).

Whilst this TV has HDR, 250 nits peak brightness makes it redundant.

    • Thank you for this, I had no idea of this spec and how important it is! I was so close to pulling the pin on this deal but you saved me!

If anyone else wants to know about nits peak / cd/m² I found this article that explains it some what:

      https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/blog/why-your-hdr-monitor-is-pr…

I guess I will be looking for 600 minimum as even 400 is not ideal let alone 250 as this tv has and interfreak's redundant comment was totally accurate, thank you.

  • Does anyone know who the OEM is?

  • avoid kogan for tvs.
often many problems and repair/ replacement is a nightmare.

best off tracking down discounted jb hifi gift cards and going in store to haggle for a good deal.

    • Is haggling in JB HIFI a thing? Please tell me more

      • We don’t even have to haggle at our local JB, we just ask for the cheapest price and an employee shows the lowest they can do on their computer.

  • Shipping for me in Adelaide is $57. Anyone have any tips to bring the total down further? Can't seem to find much cashback or gift card deals

    • $48 to the Sunshine Coast. Curiously, they charge $7 less for shipping their $589 55".

  • colours on kogan TV are horrible

    • +1

Yes, I can confirm this…… They come poorly calibrated.

There are very advanced calibration settings which can be accessed from the settings menu by typing 2 0 0 8 into the keypad.

This should really be done before sale.

      • great tip!

    Cheeeeers OP!
Have been waiting to update my spare TV to a decent size. This will be my 4th kogan TV. All TV's working great, no problems at all. All TV's paired with a xiaomi mi box s as well though…cause it's just more responsive and faster to do stuffs.

  • Ok price for 4k but as above HDR on this is basically NO-HDR

  • Better deal: $420 for a 50" Philips at TGG (commercial).

Kogan charges (me, at least) $53 to deliver this post's (with freight insurance—who would risk not getting it?!), totalling $422, and TGG's 50" Philips can possibly be bought for $21 less with a gift card haggling at the store, totalling $399. Not to mention much better warranty service.

As an aside, the Philips comes with some apps preinstalled in its proprietary OS, whereas Kogan's is totally dumb (though Philips' is not far from it).
