I've been too nervous to buy cheap cables and risk frying a phone or laptop, because the manufacturer skimped on circuity.
You won't have that problem as it only applies to USB-A to USB-C cables, while this is USB-C to USB-C. Years ago a then Google Engineer named Benson Leung and later a few others went around reviewing all the cables listed on Amazon and had a database of those which were compliant with the standards and those that weren't.
Thanks to their efforts, manufacturers are pretty much up to spec nowadays. It's been years since I've seen any non-compliant USB-A to USB-C cables floating around. Believe it or not manufacturers don't intentionally want to fry your device. Rather when USB-C was first introduced they were ignorant of the standards required for safe charging.
