  • wow. that price is amazing. We were looking at getting a Philips or panasonic but this price is super tempting.

  • Very nice. Wondering how many units each Aldi will get.

    • looking at their tiny stores available space.. I would say 2-3 units only :(

  • Nice price but I still love my analog TV :)

  • already, people are discussing what's the lcd about
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/101…

    • Isn't that the same as the 1 Scott posted above!?

      • whoops, didnt see that -_-

  • Just looking at the specs, it's a very low contrast ratio (black colours not as black) and a high response rate (may see motion blur on fast objects). But as the other threads stated, try it out and if you don't like it take it back to the store via their no fuss guarantee.

  • go buy Bravia KDL40V4000 for $1900 and sell the PS3 for $599 = $1299

i wonder if ppl do buy the $1299 Bauhn from Aldi.

    • Yeah I'd go for the Sony option, while they still have the PS3 deal.

The mother of a work colleague of mine was able to get that 40 incher, it around the $1800 mark, with the playstation3 on the way from Sony.

And the PS3 can be used to watch High Def stuff too with Blu-ray, to actually make use of the HD resolution.

Also, it's Sony, not to sound like a fanboy, but Sony have a rep for making classy TV's.

  • Sony make rubbish. You want a good TV get yourself a Pioneer.

    • LOL!!!

do u work for pioneer or somthing LOL!

try the sony bravia 52XBR4000 mate

      • Yeah, um. Pioneer would stoop low to bother replying in forums…. Sony is RUBBISH, botom line. I've seen their models and their quality isn't much better than this supermarket Aldi tripe which you buy when you're getting a bag of carrots.

As the post below says, they were only useless in the 80's with their walkmans.

(Edited by scotty — picking on Sony is fine, but no personal attack please)

    • Sony does suck. The company was only ever good during the walkman era. Since then their products suck ass.

  • I would still consider Sony makes the best TV available on the market given if they are only made in JAPAN.

  • Pioneer!!!

man, that stuff is ancient - think 80s car stereos :-P

    • (Edited by scotty — no personal attack)

      • Wow! G. Ramsay junior is in OzBargain's kitchen! :-o

  • Sony is a good brand, and heir TV's are decent. But you really are paying an extra few 100 bucks for the name, even if the quality is there too.

  • +1 for this deal. -1 for SONY. They suck big time. I would buy panasonic over sony in almost any product range.

  • Frankly, I can see why there are so many Sony tv haters here since clearly people are here for bargains. If Sony's tvs are as cheap as Soniq's, I believe other brand name tvs wouldn't survive at all. After all, people choose to pay the name because somehow they deserve it without saying. ps. I don't own a sony lcd tv but if their price is as good as soniq or even samsung's, I would buy it at any given time.

  • The funny thing is … Sony does not even manufacture their LCD panel. They outsourced to Samsung. So, at the end, Sony's LCD = Samsung's LCD.

    • Yes, you are right about the first part. They did not build factories to make lcd panels because they lost heaps of money on mistakes of those Flat Screen Tvs (the flat ones have retired much sooner than they had expected). BUT same lcd panel doesn't mean the same lcd tv technology. Just like an Ipod Nano is Not a Samsung T10 just because Samsung supply some of the parts for Ipods.

  • There are only 2 LCD panel makers in the world, Samsung and LG/Philips merger. These panels are in every LCD TV. The Chinese manufactures are trying to arrange their own panel production but it is not a happening thing yet. One of the key compoenents in the TV's is the integration of the chip-set that drives the production of the images, this is where the top-tier brands such as Sony and Pioneer do a better job than Samsung and LG.

    • Sony make their own panels and don't forget Sharp.

  • It's a joint venture by Samsung and Sony but the production line is still by Samsung.

  • Well, I'm gonna be there when the doors open tomorrow. I figure that if it sucks I can take it back within 60 days and my $1300 will then buy a lot more elsewhere in the post-olympics overstock dump. I just can't wait any longer to see my (Sony) PS3 in Full HD glory. Anyone got a clue if I could fit this upright on the back seat of my hyundai sonata? If not I'm gonna have to get a MaxiTaxi and be late for work :)

  • Well did anybody actually buy one. I would be interested to hear about the experience.

  • Aldi 42 in.LCD TV, Bauhn- yes I did by one,I have no comments as yet,it is too early. It works fine, eazy to tune, good sound, picture needed adjustment. It has a "User" defined picture set up with the other like "Standard-Soft-Cool " so you can set the detais to suit yourself.
Looks OK. they all do. But,to be fair, last night when watching it,somehow I was uneasy about the picture. So, I spent this morning at Bing Lee, Good Guys and JB HiFive looking the display TVs and tried to memoris the quality of the pictures. Well, as I am writing this comment, my wife moved into the lounch room to have a look what is on the box. I followed her to see what have we got. The moment the picture come on I jumped with joy. My picture was as good as any of the TVs I have seen on display. Yes, I am happy. To answer some of the other comments. No, it will not fit in a Hyundi Hatch, 1300x800x300 a bit large for that car. It is light, about 15 Kg. The Aldi I bought it from, Bankstown Airport, had about 10,defenetly not more, and it was gone within 3 min. after the door opening. I stood in the cold outside the store for 15min. and luckily got the last one. Keep your fingers crossed, merchandise returne on the 3-4 monthly period to Aldi.

  • I purchased one later on in the afternoon on the 31st @ 2PM :D
Didnt rush it just said if one was there it was meant to be.
I have been looking at 1080P tvs for a substantial time and was always a fanboy to Pioneer. When the Kuro caught my eye i was in lust.
The Aldi catalogue caught my attention just like everyone else.

In short. You could not possibly complain aobut the picture for the price, i would even go so far as to say its as good as a BRAVIA if not better. That being said i had never been impressed with LCD tech. Plasma fanboy :P

Down to details. Brightness is great during the day. Dont particularly like the galre i get from awkward positioned windows, but entirely fixable. There is no trailing (when i say no i mean the barest of bare hardly noticable to the normal consumer) i seen some recent LG panels with terrible trailing. Hooked up my PS3 bit of setting up later and i could feel sweat hitting me from Nadal in Virtua Tennis 3 in 1080. considering raquet head speed in that game the picture was Stunning. Harry Potter looked disturbingly real. and GTA well need i say anymore.

Black Hawk Down in Blu-Ray was a great test. it revealed something that im hoping i didnt see. on some areas of the panel. backlight leak is apparent and noticable if your are looking for flaws. that being said it wasnt very obvious, but i WAS looking for the flaws in this tv. the leak did not come from the side of the screen but in various patches much like using a black spray can very quickly on a white surface. I DO POINT OUT. THIS IS ONLY EVIDENT ON A COMPLETELY BLACK SCREEN. i.e no signal or screens with just some writing in movies. I could not notice it during any scene while watching it.
PICTURE QUALITY WAS GREAT. and during the action sequences i was impressed with my purchase.

Im trying to be objective as possible. The tuner is lacking. I feel my dedicated settop box does a better job which is no problem just an extra remote.
I was happy with the menu and it is set out well. tuning is simple just find the auto tune button and PRESTO!
At the end of the day im hoping the light leak is just a flaw on my panel as i would 100% endorse the tv
    for anyone in the market.

anything more specific needed let me know :)
