Basic Laptop Suggestions for Mum - Approx 15.6" - Must Have Number Pad - Budget of $500-$800 (flexible but <$1000)

Hi friends!

I am after some guidance or any deals OzBargainers have seen recently for a very basic laptop for my mum.

It will be used for general web surfing, emails, word, pdf, excel, zoom/skype video calls, youtube lectures (nothing HD), and the very occasional Netflix (if our HDMI/tv are occupied which rarely happens).

Nothing heavy such as video editing/gaming/programming, and doesn't need full HD or high res specs.

(Although if the price is right, I will consider giving her my current laptop*, and instead use the new one, for very very very beginner video/audio editing for a podcast/youtube channel I've been meaning to start as a side passion).

Requirements for both above options:
- 15.6" or above
- Min. 4gb RAM
- Min. 128gb SSD
- 2 USB ports (ideally 1x 3.0)
- Numberpad
- HDMI or DP
- SD card reader (optional)

*Current laptop - Acer Aspire 5 Intel i5-8250U | NVIDIA MX130 | 8gb RAM | 256gb SSD

Also if going for 2nd option, can I get away with above specs, or would I need to increase budget, RAM, SSD & graphics, etc?

Thanks in advanced for everyone's time in this thread!

  • FYI just came across Acer having decent deals - might grab one from there:

  • Those acer are poor value.

Try the Dell eBay sale https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/565608

    • Thanks @Hellfire for this as I'm not very tech savvy.

Any reasons for they are poor value? I'm only looking for a simple laptop anyway, and mine seems to be running as good as new since 3yrs ago, so they seem to suit my budget/use.

  • get This dell Inspiron 15 with an original price of $1599 and reduced to $839 with coupon code PDELLME and the laptop has a number pad. and this laptop is upgraded with a 512gb ssd and 8gb ram which is really good

    • +1

wow thanks for the coupon code as well @jayboi

I will definitely consider this as well, cheers!
