  • Wanted new binoculars thanks OP !

    • +9

Just to iterate, for boat watching … not birding or anything weird !

      • +3

Seriously man, come to the North Shore and NOrthern Beaches where young and men use binoculars to stare at half naked people while they're sunbathing on their boat. It's normal behaviour over there lol

        • +3

On domain looking for houses now !

          • +1

@ZeeFlyingMonkey: I completely butchered that sentence but I meant young women and men*. I'm just fishing (seriously I am) and girls are literally twerking and dancing to gross music while guys and other boaties cheer them on. Strange place the northern beaches is.

It's like totally normal these days to have girls with thongs so high up their arses walking around and ordering coffees and food at the local beach cafe. I use to tell them that they have to wear a towel or shorts if they want to dine in. Caught a bunch of dudes taking photos with their phones and go pro things. Binoculars are just too obvious lol

  • +1

Good product, great price. Have very similar to this model, paid much more and wrapped with quality. Get general duties on 4WD and camping trips. Nice find, OP.

    • +1

Actually just checked, have exactly same model (not Bone Collector edition). Seem to recall paid high hundreds for them a few years ago. CamelCamelCamel shows all time low price. https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B017IUQPW6

Tempted to buy another pair, no idea why .. haha

  • +1

What would be good to watch night sky ? Moon, saturn ring etc.

    • +3

      The neighbours :^)

    • +1

      Not really.

You'd want something like a Celestron Skymaster with larger magnification and objective lens. And mounted on a tripod to keep it steady.

      • +2

I second what hellfire is saying: you need a larger aperture (ie the 42 number in 10x42) and magnification to see anything meaningful.
But most importantly, a tripod to keep it all steady. You can still see the moon/Jupiter and just make out Saturn on 10x zoom, but a steady image is absolutely crucial.

      • +2

SkyMaster 25x70 or 15x70 for beginners? My 4 year old is obsessed with Jupiter and Saturn :)

        • +4

Go with the 15x70, the 25x70 doesn't allow enough light to enter for planets/stars observing. Normally when dividing the second number to the first(70/15=~4.7), you should be aiming for at least 5 otherwise the binoculars will be doo dark.

          • @Winston100s: cheers mate

          • +1

@Winston100s: Thanks for this tip. Had a look at the moon tonight and it looks stunning. Might have found myself a new hobby

        • +1

I have ordered 15x70 for $136 … same reason as winston

        • You will 100% need a solid binocular tripod. They are heavy, and at that magnification even a professional sniper can't hold them steady enough to see the planets with them.

          • @Scrobo: Right. Even high altitude flights would need that. Also the accompanying tripod accessory makes it wobble, based on reviews I have seen.

          • @Scrobo: Could you recommend a tripod please?

            • @wintersnow911: A solid tripod would cost at least x2 the price of the binoculars. Just support the front side on something, backrest of a chair or a bar stool

        • can you see ring of saturn with 15x70 ?

  • Wish these were 8x42!

    • +1

Buy these and I'll come over with the hammer and drill and they'll be what you want.

  • Excellent thanks, bought a pair for the old man.

  • +3

Good price, found 8.42 to be the sweet spot for hunting, however 10x42 are also excellent, you just need to have steady hands. Use Vortex Viper which are around 1k. Difference is in the glass/coatings and build. Able to make out more details especially in low light which is prime hunting times on the farm.

Now looking for a deal on a decent monocular.

  • +4

Thanks OP - Bought one while having absolutely no idea about the specs; did some homework here: https://www.just-binoculars.com/binocular-buying-guide/#:~:t…

  • +1

Hi OP, compare this with nikon monarch 5?

  • Good find, very good bino for this price, thanks.

  • Great deal on these. Nice

  • +1

After a high mag rifle scope around $1000 if anyone in this this thread has input? Somewhere where top end is 24x and higher. For long distance bench rest target shooting.

    • Sniper?

      • If you read, it's for long distance target shooting….

    • +1

      Perhaps look into these:
      VORTEX VIPER HS-T 6-24x50
      Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50 FFP

Just remember that magnification means nothing if the glass quality isn't great - all you will be doing is magnifying in on the impurities in the glass. Really, you should probably save up and spend a bit more. Maybe the Vortex PST gen 2 lineup or the Bushnell tactical series. Otherwise, I suggest you go for an upper magnification of 16 or 18 so that your money is spent on glass quality, not extra magnification which you cannot use.

    • What's "long distance"?

second hand might be your best bet. have two 3.5-16 x 50 Bushnell elite 6500 for longer range 300m max and they are excellent.

So don't need anything beyond 24x on max zoom, could probably get by with 20
Large objective is important so 50mm or above
Clear glass = more money, but you get what you pay for
Also think about what reticle you want.

Can also think about custom turrets, which has preset distances for a certain grain of bullet of a calibre.

  • +6

Already got binos. Dont need this. Bought anyway. Will think of a reason later.

  • Thanks OP. Signed back up to prime for $6.99, cheaper than the $20 delivery fee.

  • Cheers OP. Good price. Made use of some 10% off GC - brings it down to <$100

  • +2

    Where are they made?

  • Ordered, thanks OP! Nice surprise for my wife after her last pair were damaged by salt water. Hopefully these being waterproof means that won't be an issue either.

  • Ordered a pair as well.

  • Isn't a bak-4 prism better? What makes these better than this bak-4 kit? https://www.amazon.com.au/Gosky-Binoculars-Professional-Star…

    • These are Bak-4.

Just because they are the same type of glass doesn't mean the quality is the same. I don't know about the one you've linked, it might be better or not. Bushnell is a very respected brand so you can be sure the it's a quality product.

    • Not a clue.

The ones in this deal look a lot better though. Wanted binoculars since I was a kid, so bought the Bushnell.

  • Is bushnell H2O better than this one?

    • No, I would say these are better optically.

  • Why did I just buy this…?

    • +5

Depends who is asking, if the boys then to look at birds through the window and if the Mrs then to look at birds in the trees

    • to resell on eBay at an inflated price ;)

    • Hi mate, if you have second thoughts, please message me, will take it. thanks

      • Guessing it is sold out. I have a large hill view in front of my apartment. If I don't like it, will let you know.

  • If you don't mind the extra weight/size, I would recommend this over the given deal.
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Olympus-118760-Trooper-10x50-Binoc…

    • I already bought the one in the deal but.. why do you recommend this one?

      • +1

The optics on the Olympus are amazing for it's price range, so is the build quality. The larger number at the end x50 means it can absorb more light making it a better option for low light viewing. If you'd like to spy on your neigbours at night or observe the moon and not use a tripod, a 10x50 bino is the way to go. With a 10x50 bino you can also see stars you wouldn't be normally be able to see with the naked eye. Also nything over 10-12x will be too shakey to be handheld… So as I said if you don't mind the bigger size and extra weight I'd personally go for the Olympus. Nikon's range is also quite impressive but at a higher price.

        • +1

Be aware the Olympus are not nitrogen filled or sealed, so they can fog up internally and get moisture inside them. If getting those, thoroughly dry them and store with dessicant after use.

I personally would buy unsealed binos any more.

          • @Scrobo: Yes, you are correct however I've had them for over 3 years now and had no fogging issues so far. Maybe if I were to use them in very cold weather, but then i'd rather stay at home. Also worth mentioning that everyone who is ordereing these would get them early November as described in the description of the seller.

      • +1

It depends on your use case. The Olympus Trooper is a great budget bino but not suited to hiking, hunting or boating like the one from the deal.

  • +1

Would these be ok for hiking/hunting?

  • I find bushnell warranty is exceptionally good. Mine has the eyepiece broken while stored in my bagpack (totally my fault), they replaced it with a new one no questions asked

  • +1

After watching the Korean Netflix movie Alive, I think I'll invest in one.

    • Not a bad movie lol.

      Don't forget groceries.

  • Great for spying on Karen's or those 1.5meteres away.

  • Was very happy with the Bushnells in a previous deal

  • Didn’t expect to buy some binos today, thanks

  • +1

so many people in this thread have just outed themselves as perverts on ozbargain.

    thanks op, bought one.

  • Appears to be out of stock now despite being able to add to cart. It stops you on checkout saying it's no longer available. Bummer

  • Ahhhh currently unavailable. Why did I hesitate :/

    • I know the feeling.

    • Ditto. Work took over and I thought "all good, I can do it later".

      FOMO

  • I lived and worked in Africa and spent a lot of time in the various Game Parks.I prefer 10x50 for this job and still have my Zeiss binoculars in this magnification.YMMV.

  • I'm compelled to satisfy my FOMO with a pair of binos. Is this any a good price for a slightly smaller pair? https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01BFX28R8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i…

  • I bought this so I can spy on my neighbors when I'm bored as I live in a mid rise on top of a hill and have views into hundreds of homes, maybe some bird watching.

How well do they go at night time?

    • +1

Probably not the best to openly advertise your true intentions lol.

  • hmmm when I read the reviews I see people paying $50, $58 and $62 (US$).
How is that possible as the price tracker says lowest price today?

    • The awkward silence lol

    • +1

Is your price tracker Aussie or US?

    • Yup, seriously overpriced here in Australia.

      • And you're just learning this now?

    • Au vs USA pricing.

      • Exchange rate, GST, import Tax, inspection fee, cargo fee, freight fee

  • Anyone interested in this PM me as I just got it. Will update this comment if I am not allowed to post in this manner or sold it.

    • Lucky you. Mine hasn’t even been posted!

      • Haha, it still took a while compared to the usual Amazon posts. But, definitely better than anything from Aliexpress at the moment.

    • Are you still looking to sell your Bino's?

Your account hasn;t been set up to allow PM's.

      • I have PM'ed you.

  • mine recently shipped.

for those looking for cheaper option, found this:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0052QOGAM/ref=ppx_yo_d…

although reviews on other bower bino in amazon us are not great.

  • um, what tha…. received mine today - no extra packaging, just the retail box, which didn't even have a tamper proof sticker or anything. Good binos though.

    • Same… Box damaged due to being shipped halfway around the world

Really disappointed with Amazon us shipping

same thing happened last time with wd hardrive

      • Yet you order some paperclips and they'd come in a huge box with a bunch of airbags. Go figure.

      • Box damaged. Binoculars cracked in the middle. Very disappointed.
