            @ZeeFlyingMonkey: I completely butchered that sentence but I meant young women and men*. I'm just fishing (seriously I am) and girls are literally twerking and dancing to gross music while guys and other boaties cheer them on. Strange place the northern beaches is.

            It's like totally normal these days to have girls with thongs so high up their arses walking around and ordering coffees and food at the local beach cafe. I use to tell them that they have to wear a towel or shorts if they want to dine in. Caught a bunch of dudes taking photos with their phones and go pro things. Binoculars are just too obvious lol

      Not really.

      You'd want something like a Celestron Skymaster with larger magnification and objective lens. And mounted on a tripod to keep it steady.

        I second what hellfire is saying: you need a larger aperture (ie the 42 number in 10x42) and magnification to see anything meaningful.
        But most importantly, a tripod to keep it all steady. You can still see the moon/Jupiter and just make out Saturn on 10x zoom, but a steady image is absolutely crucial.

        SkyMaster 25x70 or 15x70 for beginners? My 4 year old is obsessed with Jupiter and Saturn :)

          Go with the 15x70, the 25x70 doesn't allow enough light to enter for planets/stars observing. Normally when dividing the second number to the first(70/15=~4.7), you should be aiming for at least 5 otherwise the binoculars will be doo dark.

          You will 100% need a solid binocular tripod. They are heavy, and at that magnification even a professional sniper can't hold them steady enough to see the planets with them.

            @Scrobo: Right. Even high altitude flights would need that. Also the accompanying tripod accessory makes it wobble, based on reviews I have seen.

    Good price, found 8.42 to be the sweet spot for hunting, however 10x42 are also excellent, you just need to have steady hands. Use Vortex Viper which are around 1k. Difference is in the glass/coatings and build. Able to make out more details especially in low light which is prime hunting times on the farm.

    Now looking for a deal on a decent monocular.

    After a high mag rifle scope around $1000 if anyone in this this thread has input? Somewhere where top end is 24x and higher. For long distance bench rest target shooting.

      Perhaps look into these:
      VORTEX VIPER HS-T 6-24x50
      Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50 FFP

      Just remember that magnification means nothing if the glass quality isn't great - all you will be doing is magnifying in on the impurities in the glass. Really, you should probably save up and spend a bit more. Maybe the Vortex PST gen 2 lineup or the Bushnell tactical series. Otherwise, I suggest you go for an upper magnification of 16 or 18 so that your money is spent on glass quality, not extra magnification which you cannot use.

      What's "long distance"?

      second hand might be your best bet. have two 3.5-16 x 50 Bushnell elite 6500 for longer range 300m max and they are excellent.

      So don't need anything beyond 24x on max zoom, could probably get by with 20
      Large objective is important so 50mm or above
      Clear glass = more money, but you get what you pay for
      Also think about what reticle you want.

      Can also think about custom turrets, which has preset distances for a certain grain of bullet of a calibre.

      These are Bak-4.

      Just because they are the same type of glass doesn't mean the quality is the same. I don't know about the one you've linked, it might be better or not. Bushnell is a very respected brand so you can be sure the it's a quality product.

        The optics on the Olympus are amazing for it's price range, so is the build quality. The larger number at the end x50 means it can absorb more light making it a better option for low light viewing. If you'd like to spy on your neigbours at night or observe the moon and not use a tripod, a 10x50 bino is the way to go. With a 10x50 bino you can also see stars you wouldn't be normally be able to see with the naked eye. Also nything over 10-12x will be too shakey to be handheld… So as I said if you don't mind the bigger size and extra weight I'd personally go for the Olympus. Nikon's range is also quite impressive but at a higher price.

          Be aware the Olympus are not nitrogen filled or sealed, so they can fog up internally and get moisture inside them. If getting those, thoroughly dry them and store with dessicant after use.

          I personally would buy unsealed binos any more.

            @Scrobo: Yes, you are correct however I've had them for over 3 years now and had no fogging issues so far. Maybe if I were to use them in very cold weather, but then i'd rather stay at home. Also worth mentioning that everyone who is ordereing these would get them early November as described in the description of the seller.

        It depends on your use case. The Olympus Trooper is a great budget bino but not suited to hiking, hunting or boating like the one from the deal.

    I find bushnell warranty is exceptionally good. Mine has the eyepiece broken while stored in my bagpack (totally my fault), they replaced it with a new one no questions asked

    I lived and worked in Africa and spent a lot of time in the various Game Parks.I prefer 10x50 for this job and still have my Zeiss binoculars in this magnification.YMMV.
