EX500 series is 2010 because I have the EX600. Good price for 55" screen as this was the street price for the 40" in November last year

    • The gentleman is correct. I bought a 40" sony mid nov just before the floods hit and it was around 1k (Got it down to 900 if i remember correctly). Good deal for a 55"

I've got one of these. Very happy with it.

  • Pretty good price for a Sony 55inch

  • Nice.

  • I'm not familiar with SONY's range. Is EX series the "value" line?

    • Yep. It's a CCFL LCD.

Still, it has a lot of useful features like IPTV (7, SBS, iView) and DLNA support. I steam media from my NAS and watch the occasional iView program with it.

      • Disregard what I said about built in IPTV and DLNA support.

I was mixing up my EX500 up with my EX720.

I've got my EX500 set up with a Sony S370 blu-ray player which gives it all the IPTV and DLNA support. It isn't built into the TV. The EX500 is just a dumb TV (which isn't a bad thing).

On the other hand, my EX720 has all that stuff built in.

        Sorry for any confusion caused.

I still think it's great value for money though. If I needed another 55", I'd buy one.

    • partly right. The EX500 and below are CCFL LCD
The EX600,720 and above are LED LCD. Also there is a difference between the refresh rate ie 600 has 50Hz and 500 has 100Hz.

Note LED LCD has a bit of light spilling from the edges which might be annoying to some, but totally fine to others. Always compare the tv live before buying it

  • Good Deal! Good Guys Browns Plains had on sale too for $1188. Gave me it for $1150 when I purchased and extra 2 yr warranty so I'm happy with that.
