Combo Hot Air/Soldering Stations - So Many Yihuas! Which One?

My ol' reliable Dick Smith soldering iron has finally given its' last puff of flux fumes.

Time to buy a new iron! And since I'm dealing with more SMD components, I figured that I'd get a combo station for cheap. I can't find a Hakko or Weller for anything near $100 bucks, and I've been told good things about Yihuas, so I thought they'll be first choice in my searches.

…But there's SO MANY different model codes! I can't find a comparison chart anywhere to look at the differences, and they're all fundamentally so similar I have no idea if one model is above the rest or they're simple rebadges with different front panel layouts.

Anyone got some better insight?

  • Blower up to 300oc and stick 350oc. Buy spare blower elements if slow blow coz they burn up

  • Same here, also looking at getting a Hot Air Rework station. Searching on eBay, YiHua appears to be the most common brand.

Was deciding between the following models:

    • YIHUA 858D (Standalone Hot Air Rework station) - thinking of also getting a TS80P portable soldering iron with this, but currently $150+ everywhere
    • YIHUA 8786D-I (2 in 1 Hot Air + Soldering station)
    • YIHUA 952D+ (2 in 1 Hot Air + Soldering station)
    • I eventually settled on the 8786D-I; at $78 delivered I really can't complain. Most of the other models started at $109 and upwards

      • The YIHUA 8768D-I was at top of my list. You must have bought from the seller that is Out of Stock now

      • is it any good?????

        • +1

It does the job exactly as expected

I've never used a rework station before, but there was enough hot air for me to eventually pull a BGA chip off a board so it seems to work.

Soldering iron is pointy and gets hot. I've not really played with the heat to find my preferred temps, but for the couple of small jobs I've done it worked well.

Haven't found anything to complain about, so that's probably a big plus, and it certainly has good value for money.

          • @Switchblade88: All those products are a bit vague, do they come with a soldering iron? Or just the station space for it?

  • Merged from Any Deals on a 2in1 Soldering Iron Solder Rework Station? Where Can I Buy a Good One?

I have not seen any deals on them, anyone know any good cheap ones that work well?
