Safe Way to Pay Someone for Item over The Internet?

hi, we do this a lot on ozbargain classified. I'm wondering how do you trust someone on the internet to send thousands to? For example buying $1000 of e gift card where you can't meet each other. How do you trust the person before you send your $1000. Is there a platform for this kind of transaction? How do people do it? Thanks.

Outside using eBay and their buyer protection, Escrow is probably the safest but a huge hassle. General advice is just don't.

  • Paypal paying by goods and service is probably the safest way but still a risk

  • You don’t, there’s no trust on the Internet sadly.

  • PayPal. There's a fighting chance of getting your money back, but sadly both buyers and sellers run scams on PayPal. Usually the buyer is favoured in rulings.

      escrow.com

PayPal does not give buyer or seller protection for gift cards so the answer is there's no safe way besides meeting up in the store, seller shows gift card is valid by swiping it in the cash register and you hand over cash to them and then you use it to buy something.

  • $1000 probably not worth wasting the time over, but you can do Escrow.com (owned by Freelancer the Australian company)

$1000 will set you back $32.50 - depends how much you value the security

  • You give it to me and I will give it to them.

Big risk especially for e-gift cards. Impossible to prove you delivered the product. (E-gift card could be sent and then used.)

  • Onlyfans. That site is not just for adult services. It is an escrow with a one month delay on payment transfer.
